    @TallJoe
    The Op post is a perfect example of an O/O not treating it as a business. (As per a previous question of yours).
    Someone that claims to be an O/O, but is complaining that the company isn't treating them like an employee....

    4mer trucker and Lonesome Thank this.

    obviously you don’t read, it was a lease purchase..they were the first company I’ve tried that with. Now I know what’s what and how to go about it! No thanks to your reply sir

    The point I was implying in the other thread was that being an o/o does not automatically qualify someone to the status of a business owner.

    But first and foremost, there can be hardly any talk of business, if you don't get to make your own decisions. I think it is the core prerequisite. Only then go other things, such as what decisions someone has to make to "run it like a business" in such aspects as Accounting, Sales, Ethics, Etiquette, Clarity if goals and bravery and boldness, sometimes ruthlessness in achieving them and it all has to be backed up by long term profitability. Profitability defines the business health. I have to be modest now and say that I on some these aspects I have my own sever shortcomings. That prompted me to ask that question.

    With lease purchase deals but limited to one carrier such as Schneider or Prime, it seems that the only freedom you have is to spend as much money as you want on truck washes, chrome and repairs but the money you are allowed to spend is only yours. I don't really care about the nomenclature at this point...o/o or lease purchase operator...but the difference depends mainly on what the supposed owner or truck director can do with the truck if he is dissatisfied with the work environment. If he can't leave with it and go wherever he wants to then there is hardly any ownership. On the other hand, those who can lease - purchase, for instance from Lone Maintain, regardless of whether it is a good deal or not, they can call shots from the very get go. There is no ownership, they can't sell it, but they are no different than owner operators in how they make business decisions.
