Had two. Both uneventful... but I didn't stomp the brakes or panic.

I can relate to this story. One Sunday night on 80 near Iowa city I had one of those stupid unified non serviceable hubs on driver side steer come apart. Felt like a brake locked up steering was all over the place mass pandemonium ensued. Everything worked out but I will say way worse experience than steer tire flying off.

My sister blew one on her route; maintained control but was scary with those doubles.

Happened to me once, on a plus side it did not blow as loud and harcode how I was afraid , I was even able to steer towards shoulder without big problem, on a minus side, compare to drive axle, with steer you can only hope that shoulder will be wide enough to pull over (and you need to pull over ASAP cause otherwise with new tire you will have to buy a brand new rim) and not create a traffic backup .( Cause I guarantee you will have curses towards you in that day more that in all previous life).

Had the right steer go on the down side of Donner.
Not very eventful, ride it out and slowly work it to the shoulder.
Wheel was toast by the time I got it stopped.

Not to be a know-it-all, I DO know some, and air-assist won't help you much more than armstrong. The only time air assist is helpful, is when backing or turning. In a straight line, it behaves a lot like manual steering, you may still have a handful.
