Hi I am looking to buy this truck tomorrow. I was wondering what I should look for when inspecting it or should I just take it to a mechanic first?
Would you buy$15K, 2001 Ram 2500 259K 5.9L 24 valve Cummins

That’s not very high mileage for an 01 so it’s not bad and the good part is it’s got no emissions and even for being computerized it’s dead simple. Absolutely have a mechanic check it for blow-by and do a compression test. I’d also do a load test on the batteries and check the front end throughly as Dodge front ends suck at the best of times.

Not a lot of k for the motor, but still have it checked out.

If its a 53 block I'd either walk or lowball offer knowning there's a good chance it'll need a replacement block.

no. too many miles. engine may handle it. but the rest is wore out

Not if it’s got blow-by or bad compression. If it does it would likely be a sign that the speedometer was unhooked and it’s got 400k.Ttro447 and feldsforever Thank this. -
No, I definitely wouldn’t buy a used truck in this market.
You should be able to find a common rail Cummins with that mileage for that price.
Unless the one you’re looking at is in show room condition.Ttro447, Caterpillar Cowboy and 201 Thank this. -
I wouldn’t pay 15k for a work pickup that’s 20 years old.
