    So the saga continues; and I just couldn't help myself - I bought a 2007 Freightliner M-2 106 Rollback.
Alum. wheels, air bag suspension, 33,00 G.V.W, and air brakes. Too good a deal to pass on it.
    Next months payment, zero.
So I've had it about 1,500 miles worth, and today did a check under the hood and wiggled the fan.
Not good; it moved in the Horton air clutch. Went on you-tube and there are videos on rebuilding them.
This one seems good except the bearing holding the fan? Its a HT650 clutch, and there are 8010N replacement upgrades made by Kit Masters. Anyone out there on the inter-webs know about these?
3 year warranty seems impressive; Horton has a 90 day warranty.
    Are they good/better than stock?

Don't buy a rebuilt one unless you want to get used to changing your fan clutch every few mo. A new one only costs a bit more?

If a fan clutch bearing is all you encounter, consider yourself lucky.

Don't Lollygag around about fixing this. You really don't want that fan in the radiator!

I already have a new one in the pony express pipeline.
Mainly because I was quoted 60 dollars more for the kit than a new one??
I asked again , please check that data again, U must have mixed up with new one's price.
    Not the case.
I "jumped to," because the vision of the fan blasting out the radiator, tensioner, belt, and possibly the hood or water pump, Oh, and the "tow for a tow-truck," was motivation enough. (Ask me how I know.)
To be fair, the other "incident" was motor driven fan, not air clutch fan.
    So....
I am Not one of those, Hammer.

There are 3 kinds of people,
I am the "Makes things happen."

So I look over this air clutch beast, and it is encased in a pretty strong looking aluminum housing,
and the front, or air portion, is where the bearing failed.
I will split it, and see if I can get just the bearing - from the numbers on it
The clutch plate is totally enclosed, and don't see how it could go into the fan at all - now that it's out.
I watched a you-tube video on rebuilding it, and there's a giant nut on inside holding that plate on the shaft.
8010N replacement upgrades made by Kit Masters Seem re-designed to have bigger bearings?
Wish someone on here had experience with these upgraded parts??
Anyway, Used truck 1,500 miles and 700 bucks later, we go for second 1,500. And many more, I hope.
I don't look forward to reinstalling it. Wasn't pretty. The best part was, I was looking for something to cover the radiator in the disassembly process, and found an aluminum kitchen sheet from a hotel bakery in my aluminum scrap pile,
that fit between the top and bottom of the radiator, and wedged itself in place, like it was made for it,
exactly tall enough, and wide enough to fit perfectly. Weird. I'm not lucky like that.

    Hammer166 Thanks this.

Kit Masters is owned by the guy who designed the Hortons. He left to start his own deal years ago. They are better quality rebuild kits than the Hortons. Imo. The only way to go for the ancient obsolete stuff I deal with.

For poops and laughs and utter curiosity I have seen someone take apart a new one for a 3126 Cat and the parts in the K-M rebuild kit looked better visually

Thanx for the reply SP, I came home today to find the new Horton by my door.
I couldn't wait, I just popped for the stock one.
Kit Masters sounds like the way to go; If I design/build something, I know the weak points.
They appear real beefy. When I fab anything - I over build it, like, "There, now try to break that!"
So.... today it all goes back together, (at least it's not blazing sun today.)

I thought my fan went out and it was a wheel bearing.

And fan clutch is in - and works!!
So... since I tell all the stories, not just the good, but the bad, too,
I put it all back together, and forgot to take the aluminum radiator guard out from in front of the rad. fins!!
I was hooking up the air line and discovered my mistake. WOW. Glad I didn't start it. That would have made a mess.
Just took out the 2 top bolts on fan shroud, and pulled it up, and out, and buttoned it back up. Easy fix.
Like Happily Retired said, guess I'm lucky it was only 700 bucks, and 2 hours time.

BigBob410, SmallPackage and Hammer166 Thank this.
