Warning: long post. TMI on TNI.
Tomorrow marks one year anniversary with TNI.
Time for a review of the company.
Pay 3 stars Benefits 1 star
Pay is ontime and accurate. Solo Pay rose from .44 to .47 pm plus .02 a mile safety bonus each month 11,500 minimum driven. Haven't gotten my full 3k signon bonus yet because it is awarded $500 at a time if 12k miles run in a month. I've lost track how much I've yet to earn because this distribution method is whimsical. Still, I've averaged 3k miles per week. Benefits are pitiful. Accessorial pay is a joke.
Loads. 4 Stars.
Loads average 1000 to 1200. Run Laredo to Detroit corridor or southeast. No northeast and rarely west of I-35. 50/50 drop and hook. Essentially forced dispatch. I have yet to flat out refuse a load, but am often accommodated by being allowed to relay loads for various reasons. Delivery appointments are rarely strictly on the minute but are more often scheduled within a window.
Hometime: 5 stars
Hometime is TNI's claim to fame. As little or as much as you want up to 29 consecutive days at a time which leads us to...
Equipment and other whimseys. 3 1/2 stars
The trucks are relatively new and well maintained. When you take hometime, you empty your truck and when you come back you get another one, even if it is only for 2 days. Big pain in the butt, and less than sanitary. On the upside, you never have to sit around waiting for a lengthy repair at the oc, just get another truck.
You must get Def, oil, washer fluid etc. At oc else pay for it yourself and get reimbursed. One of the improvements they made is the Def is now self serve and available even when shop is closed at most locations.
Fuel stops are the big 3.
Driver treatment. 4 stars
Everyone is respectful and actually cheerful, even fellow drivers. Maybe because we are all pretty darn happy with our work.
I'm free to choose my own routes as long as not adding ridiculous miles to a run.
The ocs are sorry little dumps with single stool bathrooms and sometimes a single shower which I am loathe to use. Except for san sntonio, they have 1 washer and dryer each, but they are free and really efficient.
Road facing cameras, and the usual buzzers, bells and horns for lane variance and following distance with unicorn detecting collision mitigation. Annoying but manageable. I have yet to have safety contact me and "school" me on my driving habits.
However, I'm worried about some new cameras they are installing and retro fitting. They still are not driver facing or voice recording. But instead of buzzers etc they will have a computer voice nagging you like a mother-in-law in the back seat. "Slow down! You are following too close! Oh my gawd, you have exceeded the speed limit"
Yep. Comparing speed with highly inaccurate Google speed limit data. Besides being annoying enough to make you want to pull a Garth Brooks, I'm worried this signals a new era of safety department micromanagement like at jbhunt. Now I don't know how it will play out, and I may be borrowing trouble, but piss me off with that stuff enough, and I will start looking for another company.
Conclusion TNI is not everyone's cup of tea, but pay is average and steady, hometime is stellar and job is relatively stress free. But it's a delicate ecosystem that management could mess up with a single policy change.Shackdaddy, Dave_in_AZ, otterinthewater and 17 others Thank this. -
So you can take 2 weeks off anytime you want?
-
Western flyer and UturnGirl Thank this.

Western flyer, Lonesome and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this.

With all that time off available, I’m surprised their drivers don’t spend more time in Kentucky. That’s what I’d do.
UturnGirl, Speed_Drums, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.
