Just bought 4 x locking fuel caps for my KW. Genuine Kenworth items, the round screw-on ones. Only problem is, I just found out you can’t take the key out until they are locked. You can’t take the key out when they are unlocked. A real hassle when you’re filling 4 tanks. I only want to lock them occasionally if I’m in a dodgy area. I rang a locksmith and he said they are designed that way, and the only way to fix it is to mill or grind a groove in the fuel cap body. Anyone done this?

Good to hear from you. It has been long time. -
Yes welcome back….
love your truck…… wish I had 4 tanks…. -
Do they make locking caps or collars for DEF tanks for 2016 KW T680's? I've been looking,
but nothing so far. -
I have never messed with locking fuel caps, but if you find whatever little piece of metal holds the key in place inside the lock cylinder while the fuel cap is unlocked, just grind it off flush.
Cool looking truck, BTW. -
Probably not an issue with theft like there is with fuel.
If anything It would be helpful to keep away someone from sabotage. DEF contamination is very expensive to fix.
Is this why you are looking? -
thinking that something like that may work. Perhaps I can get someone
to fabricate a coupling lock for it as well. -
spsauerland Thanks this.

I've found locking caps to more trouble than they're worth, but if you insist... I would just have four keys made and keep them on a doohickey like this (or reasonable facsimile).

Like every other lock and security device on the planet. If the theives want it bad enough, they will get it. They are indeed a huge inconvenience and very problematic.not4hire Thanks this.
