    Hello,

I'm new here, I drive a 2013 Volvo truck, this truck has been a complete nightmare. I don't know much about trucks so I will try to explain my current situation to the best of my ability. I brought the truck into a local mechanic because it was leaking oil from the engine. So, the mechanic looked at it and took it apart and said something about the seal and it wasn't a huge problem at the the time he also noticed that the clutch was wearing out so I decided to replace that too, he had to take the transmission out for to do all of this but he didn't touch the transmission. Great everything was good at this point right....With the new clutch in the truck was having problems getting into gear, so the mechanic brought in a tuner I guess to reprogram the computer with the new clutch, now everything was set and according to the mechanic he took it for a test drive to make sure everything was working and it was but he said once he drove the truck back to the shop he noticed that it was leaking oil again and a lot of it. So he took the transmission out and he opened it and everything and noticed a lot of oil, I will show a picture of where, right now.

You see where I have circled there was oil everywhere in there, and the mechanic didn't know where it was coming from exactly, this isn't a dealership mechanic either. Since it's i-shift transmission no one he called knew how to work on it, so he tells me that I need to take it to a dealer...Mind you at the start there was nothing wrong with the transmission so I am confused and heated a little bit because in his initial statement he never even mentions anything wrong with the transmission at all...So long story short, I have no choice but to take it to a dealership now the transmission by itself is at a Volvo dealership, and I'm talking to one of the mechanics and right away he starts shaking this piece of the transmission and tells me it's not supposed to do that, I will add a picture.

I don't know anything about trucks, so I'm assuming he's right, and he said this usually happens because of wear and tear but long story short they're telling me it's going to take 16 hours to complete and it's going to cost me roughly around $5k - $6k with $1.5k being in parts and I'm just in total shock and confusion and I have no idea what to do. I'm just hoping someone can provide some kind of guidance, or if you have went through something similar if you are able to help, please. Thank you.

Only two places oil is going to leak from to cover that area with oil. If your mechanic doesn't know, then you need a new one.

The leak is from the engine or the transmission "shaft seal". it's one or the other.
That mechanic, while may be cheap, isn't doing you any favors. I'd get a second opinion.

What do you think about the volvo dealership telling me that they have to re-built basically the transmission because it's getting old due to wear and tear then. I showed a picture of what they said is the problem, because they're asking me for nearly $6k, should I not go through with that?

I would. Knowing quite well the dealership would be gouging me with prices. At least I know the truck would be fixed and I could be back out making money with it.
It's a gamble. Maybe you can find a better mechanic than the dealer, especially if the truck os past the warranty period. But it's not the guy that dosen't know where the leak is coming from. That guy will bankrupt you with breakdowns.
