    Covered bridges are historical buildings. You don't just change them. There's plenty of warnings, but you make a better sign and they'll just send a better idiot.

    Maybe police should go to their local Penske rental and talk to them. In the second video it’s obvious they hadn’t travelled far because hood was still full of snow lol

    A pretty stout 12" iron beam across the road 6" below the minimum clearance about 1/4 mile before, with a turn around available would stop it.
    It isn't just the clearance, none of those bridges can handle anything heavier than an automobile or unladen pickup truck.

    I've wondered why that isn't as common as it should be for low bridges, especially for historical bridges. After all, it's a relatively cheap way to prevent damage.
    Heck, if they are worried about the look, just use a massive wooden beam instead of steel.
