Claiming short haul

    Alright so I’ve gone over and over the FSCMA website about the short haul exemption. I run oilfield and am rarely outside the 150 air mile radius from my terminal.

    my question is this

    I’m a new O/O (authority active next week) and was wondering if there’s a time frame I have to wait in order to use the exemption.

    I’m planning on having an ELD installed just incase I switch operation but do I have to pass my first audit before I can claim exemption?

    If you end your work day ate the same place you started it, like your terminal, you are probably ok.

    I run mostly within the 150 air mile radius; however, I do have a couple DH's that go over, but not by much. Either way, I'm back to the home 20 end of the run. Depending on the distance, I have both, a daily local sheet (<150) and paper log (>150 & pre '99 truck). I keep both in the truck to show my past activity for at least 7 days as required, and yes, I run Interstate..

    I honestly go back and forth.

    Some days I do the 150 Mile work and others I log into my ELD and go over the road.

    You just have to make sure you have time cards to back up your local work that matches BOL - same thing for OTR. Have to have the ELD files that match the BOLs

    8 days month your allowed out of the 150 just have a log with you and time sheet for previous wk. I got inspected a few weeks ago and after saying I was local 150 that was the end of that conversation. Didn't ask to see my time sheet or anything
