Been here 6 years make .65 a mile. Choose my loads of what’s available, no northeast or California I’m good.

You make .65 with bonus if you can hit all the numbers right. Not an easy task. You sit in a truck, down time, for way too much time, OTR. My second year, after Magnum, .705 (no direct bonus correlated to miles but we get other bonuses at random), far more miles, far better benefits, far less free downtime, given. Doubled my pay over a potential second year with Magnum. Magnum would have to pay me .90 to 1.00 per mile to be comparable. Too compensate for babysitting downtime. But each to their own, I know they treated you well, medically.

I'm not saying Magnum is a bad company. Probably comparable to other OTR outfits. I'm just saying there are other far better paying company jobs if one is willing to look for them. As I am walking proof of it. Pay/money is how a company values your time working for them.

What company did you go to, if you don't mind me asking and what sector of trucking (still OTR, still reefer, or did you switch sectors)?

    Estes LTL Linehaul

FYI, Magnum is also an LTL outfit. Even worse pay than OTR.

So...how's everyone at Magnum liking the new "guaranteed $1250/week" pay? Has anything regarding miles or loads changed? Anyone feel like they're being worked to the bone now? Or being taken advantage of? Higher expectations from the office? Lower? Same?

Been with Magnum almost 5 years now. I’m not guaranteed anything. I believe that setup is for new drivers, but I’m not complaining. I’m averaging 2750 miles /week and grossing $1,425 / week this far this year plus accessory pay (detention , layover, transit layover, breakdown). The loads and miles haven’t changed for me and Everything seems to be running the same.
I keep looking for a better OTR company for me but can’t seem to find one.

    Team818 and RubberDuck473 Thank this.

I started out with Prime. Yes, they had great facilities at that ONE terminal. Consider that being a Mega-carrier they’ve got over 5000 trucks on the road and their other terminals aren’t even close to being as nice as the main one. However I don’t care about a terminal I’ll stop into once every other month. Prime charged even company drivers for their chains, load locks and pad locks. Almost $500 in personal expense. I hated driving for them. Did my year and got the hell out.

My post wasn't a knock on Magnum. I drove for them for a few weeks shy of 3 years. He'll, we've probably walked past each other at one of the terminals lol. I was more curious as to whether this advertised "guaranteed" weekly pay meant they started doing like I've heard some of the other "guaranteed" pay companies do and make life hell on the driver. I still keep in touch with Uncle Tony from time to time, and when I can get back out on the road, it's gonna be hard not to come home, so to speak. My only real knock on Magnum is the absence of southwest freight lanes, and that's not really a knock as much as it is me just missing running that area.

On average, how often do you guys have loads that take longer than 5 hours to live load/live unload? How many times do you get really ridiculous wait times such as 10 hours or more?

And to be clear I'm talking about scheduled dock times so if you're appointment is at 10:00am but you arrive at 12:00am 10 hours before your appointment, then that wouldn't count as having to wait 10 hours because we are going by the appointment time not by the time you get there.

I was looking on Google Maps today and I realized that your drop yard for Greensboro is actually the Old Dominion Terminal there. Is that Terminal's gates open 24/7 or do they give you a code or something to get in? Does Magnum have it's own designated truck parking section there, I'm assuming? Are there quite a bit of North Carolina drivers who park there?

And for your personal vehicle do you just leave a note on the dashboard saying you're a Magnum driver since the car will be parked in the same place for a month or more?

Does Magnum actually have staff there or is it just a drop lot at OD's Terminal like I'm thinking?
