Update: Got a very stern verbal warning. No paperwork. Appreciate them giving me a second chance, but now it’s a decision time. Obviously will avoid HOS Violations at all costs moving forward, but now it’s a question of whether to stay with current employer on thin ice for termination, or try and find something else where I’ll be on a clean slate. Sounds like you're planning to fail, if the rest of your perfect record is true. Let it go, before it spoils the apparently good thing in all other respects you have going on there.

I could never work for someone that did that.
And obviously they did you a favor by firing you.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they mentioned it if you did it all the time but firing for the first event is crazy.
And I don’t see any issue with it anyway , you can shut off the cruise and hit the accelerator so what’s the difference?

I’m surprised the accelerator even works with the cruise set but I set the cruise in a smaller company truck and then step on the gas to pass or speed up a little , all the time .
They will say something if you get over a particular speed , And they have complained about the idle time and some hard braking events but I just ignore that and get back to doing my job .

If there’s no paperwork , it didn’t happen, although there could be paperwork you didn’t see or sign. But I doubt it .

Ran out of hours on my 14 and was just barely going to be able to squeak it in before receiving closed. Took the HOS violation to get it delivered and go home. I know, illegal, I should have just rode it out and delivered legally, etc.. Was literally running for 20 hours trying to make use of split sleeper, etc. while stuck on the side of the interstate for 4 hours waiting on roadside service to show up for a repair. That leads to this question, what are some signs/hints that a termination is coming? Obviously we drive some very expensive equipment and the company wants it to come back in good shape without having to be recovered, so they won't ever call and say, "hey, you're getting fired so put a smile on your face and take this load to Chicago for us and leave the truck at HQ". First load back after home time tomorrow for me is being routed to HQ for a 'safety meeting'. Is an HOS violation typically something that would be a fireable offense? Clean record and in good standing with my company prior. Is 'safety meeting' just the typical way of getting a truck to the yard before terminating? I have 3 years experience, perfect CSA score, etc., so I'm not worried about finding employment. I just don't want to look silly dragging everything out of the truck in the yard and cramming it in a rental if I can just clean the truck out tonight while I'm home.

Usually a slight overage on one of your HOS clocks is no big deal. The hazmat tanker company I worked for considered a 1 hour or less violation as something minor, unless it was frequent. However every company has their own policy.

I am serious, no ticket, no accident, no playing with my phone while driving. That is the jb hunt golden rule i broke. I even had a medal awarded to me with big $250 cash bonus for driver of the region in the past with them, but something made the safety camera start recording and at the time I was holding down the accelerator in order to pass the truck in front of me and that is what did it.

That’s insane. I was talking to a driver a few weeks ago that had the crash mitigation system slam the brakes due to a car taking an exit ramp. For some reason, the system thought the exit ramp was the driver’s lane and locked the brakes while he was using cruise. paper rolls falling and slammed brakes meant the bottom of his trailer decided to fall out in the middle of the interstate.

my truck has the crash mitigation also, but we don’t have any rules while using cruise control about hitting the gas or not. Have had it lock down the brakes on me going through shippers when it thought a shadow or things lined on the side of a road at a customer were cause for ‘Collision warning’

Pressing the accelerator while cruise-control engaged is a violation of company policy? That's ridiculous and petty. I can't think of why that is even a problem. But company policy can be petty. "If they say touch your ear before setting your brakes" I guess they can.

Makes more sense then why my company took it serious. Even when most people’s ‘in reality’ opinion agrees 15 minutes past a 14 to get home is basically meaningless, insurance and attorney’s don’t play around. Lesson learned for me going forward. Finally starting to understand why the old timers preach about missing running on paper.
