True on having to get to training location. I flew Vegas to Chicago and they picked me up from there to Indiana. There is a shuttle from hotel to the yard everyday. Even though they don't tell you about it. And local guys are happy to let you ride with them. I bought a couple burgers for my "driver". We are both still with roehl and talk all the time.
The schooling is enough to get you your license in whatever state you are schooling in. I was amazed we were not taught how to 45 back since it is so common, but it wasn't on Indiana test so......
You pay to get home, do your DMV local paperwork then they will fly you too whenever your trainer is.
After you get your CDL you meet up with a trainer for 19-21 days on the road. You must do 5 solo loads to be sent in for DSE. Driver skills evaluation. Pass that and get a truck and start driving.
I went with with roehl because they pay you while in school and with trainer. It's not a lot, but since I have up a job to do this, anything was better than nothing.
I'm on 11-14 out with 3 home, but this first run I'm doing 24 out and 5 home. After getting my truck they got me a couple short loads then got me a run from Wisconsin to the Vegas yard for dive home time.
So far I've had no down time waiting for loads. I've been running Arizona (my home terminal), Utah, Nevada and Calif for the most part. They gave me a 2020 cascadia that had 230k on it. I just had to get microwave and fridge. Has Apu and inverter.
Cons- driver facing camera and 65 mph governor. I was called in going 76mph for 14 seconds in Utah. Speed limit is 80. I was down hill with 7k on the trailer. I understand that's too far for the tires but you gotta call me? Then I got a video of me opening a granola bar. Took both hands off the wheel to do it and steers crossed the white line. 10 min conversation on the bad and how to correct.
Doing 65 in Nevada and Utah sucks.

It sounds as though you were, and still are, in excellent physical condition.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.
Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round. -

The thing is...
Swift does not have driver facing cameras now.
If they caught that, it was from the reflection in the window of the forward facing camera.
And letting your truck get to 75+ can get you fired, no matter the speed limit.LilRedRidingHood Thanks this. -
