No they can't take you cdl however whom ever had been paying your bill for the past 4 months will have to be paid back and you have to pay off the remainder of your bill.

 

Find out what you will end up owing, and see if your friend with this great driving opportunity will pay it for you as a "sign-on bonus."

That way, no bridges are burned, no debts owed, and nothing goes on your credit report.

 

Not recommended, maybe this new opportunity sounds good now but doing your first company like that is not a good sign.

training is not for free. you're working there is paying them back.

there can be companies that can muck up your credit report. that can make things difficult for you to either lease, buy a truck, or even get other jobs, as many companies' nowadays, do credit checks on new applicants.

find out the balance of your "loan" or promissory note, and make arrangements to pay them back.

 

They’ll just send you a bill. Pay it back or not. If you don’t pay likely it’ll go to collections. It’s a bill at the end of the day separate from your CDL.

he's not gonna want that. it'll stay on his credit report for (i believe) 7 years.

 

Arrangements vary. Some companies have a non-compete clause in their training contracts. If you work for another company before you pay off your training the company that sponsored your training can sue any company that hires you as a CDL driver. CRST (and others) have been winning these suits.

Some companies will also hold your 160 hr. training certificate. While you did complete the training and the certificate exists the company that sponsored your training may hold it until you pay off your training. To a prospective employer it's as if you don't have a 160 hr. training certificate making it difficult/more expensive/impossible for them to insure you.
