I can’t decide on what specialized industry I want to pursue. My top 3 choices are car hauling, Tanker and LTL. Definitely want to stay local, I wouldn’t mind a layover here and there. I have had my class A for 8 years and have experience in several kinds of trucks requiring class A. Only 1 year and 2 months are actual tractor trailer experience. The rest is dump trucks pulling trailers, line trucks pulling 40-60 ft poles and other specialized vehicles.
How much experience do you usually need before you can get hired on as tanker driver? I know ltl is ridiculous hours especially when your at the bottom of the seniority list. What’s your opinion on the career I should try and pursue? I’m really struggling lol. Money is not the most important factor for me, longevity and stability are more important. I have been contacted by carvana and YRC so far. I also haven’t really been putting in apps until I decide on what I want to do. Thanks for any help and advice I receive.
What career should I go with?

LTL ain't for everybody. Like you said, you start at the bottom, babysitting the phone until they call you. Crap runs and houirs til you get some time in, which may take a year or more. Money can be good, if you can live with the BS.

Be a man and go flatbed!

If you can handle the fact you could be blown to kingdom come every day, a tanker is the best. Otherwise, I did okay at LTL. Hours were pretty predictable, you basically go to the same places, line haul is about the easiest, but boring. Today, without question, it's either tanker or flatbed out here, bigger cities will cater to van or reefer, or local delivery. I think you have plenty of experience to do whatever. Suicide jockey used to pay the best, not sure that's true anymore. Someone here said they make $51/hr. in a gas can.

Tanker. Specifically, pneumatic if you want stability. There is no shortage of folks and companies wanting to pour cement.

Line haul jobs pay really well and most have you home every day.
Some, like ABF and YRC have Teamsters benefits and affordable or free health insururance.
Many ads have "experience required", but that's flexible for a good applicant, such as youself that has driven Class-A vehicles, even if they weren't tractor-trailers.
There's several good recommendations on your other thread.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
