    Trucks > Truck Parking

    Its elementary math.

You have 60 apples, but your bucket only holds 30. You don't debate why 60 apples should fit, because you have working brain cells. You can see the bucket is full.

I don't understand why this discussion keeps coming up.

It keeps coming up because too many truckers thing the job title "driver" makes them immune to property and trespass laws. Then they com here an whine when reality smacks them in the face,.

If you want trucks parked all nice and neat-like in legal spots, there needs to be more nice and neat like parking.

Otherwise trucks will start parking where ever and #### will occasionally happen.

Or maybe drivers need to plan better. It's not that hard.

You are not wrong! Unfortunately, though you are also not right with your implications. If I own property and don't want trucks on the property that's my right and not only that, I also have the right to have that vehicle removed. The same can be said for places on the roadway where it is dangerous to be parking. I totally agree parking is a MAJOR issue especially since the FMCSA has really cracked down on the HOS. Still when a truck "start parking where ever and #### will occasionally happen" That driver AND their company WILL BE 100% responsible for that #### when it does happen!

When ANY kind of a vehicle is stopped on the side of the road it is a hazard! Yes, I know drivers should not be solving the world's problems on the cell phone or by texting as they drive, but they do! At least 2 or 3 times a year I hear about some accident where a non-disabled CMV was stopped and had a POV run into its rear!

I'm sorry, but I could NEVER condone such a flippant disregard to safety these morons show by parking like this! A disabled CMV is one thing, this is why trucks have triangles and why some cops will ignite a flair. But to just "park" that's pure "####" as you call it!

Never park on an off ramp. I don’t care if there are already several trucks parked there. Folks in cars and trucks are coming off the highway at highway speed. Don’t park at the entrance to a rest area, for the same reason. It’s just not safe or smart.

If you do have to park on a ramp, at least folks are going a lot slower on on ramps and the downstream side of rest areas.

I say this as someone who has never parked on a ramp or shoulder since 2012: if all those drivers planned better or did whatever else they needed to do to not park there, it would be a lot harder and more costly for me to park safe and legal. Already there's times I sacrifice money to park safe and legal. I'd be doing it more often, and at a higher average price, if suddenly there was absolutely no more ramp and shoulder parking without first addressing the parking shortage.

I'm not talking about private property. I'm just referring to the constant whining about people parking on ramps and creative parking in truck stops and other places.

I'm not talking about parking on the shoulder of the interstate either.

Nothing will be done to solve the problem, and driver behavior probably isn't going to change much. So its just whining and complaining.

Some of the posters in here are correct though. Some of those guys can do a little more to find better spot.

But if you see a big fat shoulder on a ramp... take it. Why the hell not? I don't make it a habit. But I'll do it if needed, just like everyone else.

Yep! And in the unlikely BUT possible event, a POV strikes your rear and kills a family of four guess what happens to you and your company?

Now it's no longer a forum debate BUT it is YOU being questioned by an Attorney either in Court or during a deposition! I can tell you from painful personal experience those dang depositions are not fun!
