Thanks for the recommendations, @Chinatown . Talked with a recruiter and sent my application to Prime. If that doesn't work out then I'll probably look into Stevens and Swift. Interested in pulling reefer, regardless of where I go.

Being that yourself employed, did you set up a company or an LLC for yourself? Unless I missed it you didn't mention that you already have a cdl. So Either way I don't see self employment being a problem. Good luck.

No company or LLC, and no CDL now or in the past. OTR is a brand-new world for me.

    ETA:

And the Prime recruiter said self-employment wouldn't be a problem.

PART 391 requires three years, unbroken, employment history and for those driving more than 3 years an additional 7 years of driving history.

Have seen situations where, during the past three years, someone stopped to run the family farm while dad recuperated from some medical condition, before returning to driving.

A letter stating that was accepted [farm's letter head would be really good] though, of course, good ole J J Keller has a couple forms for that!

Remember 'self-employment' IS employment, it all depends on how/if the carrier decides to document the time.

Depending on the potential for the 'side gig' to interfear with your 70 hours working for the carrier, they may be hesitant to invest in bringing you aboard, your mileage may vary.

The side gig will be getting kicked to the curb. It's been fun but I think I've worked harder self-employed than when working for someone else. 70 hours a week? 6 days a week? Piece of cake, and I'll be making more money. No more scrambling for new clients. No more having to pay the IRS every year and actually maybe getting a little money back. Ah! I can feel the tension leaving my body already. :p

You seem like an intelligent guy, so maybe play the stock market from the cab of your truck. Lots of drivers on this forum are doing that and some are making big money.

I never considered that as a possibility. I'll have to do some studying on it since I've never messed around with stocks but I can get on board with the idea of using money to make money.
