    Parents are stubborn.
Tell them that their accepting help will make life easier for you. Tell them you need their help. Telling parents they neex help never works.

Thank you all so much. This site makes me almost cry because I always get amazing and helpful responses. The trucking community is filled with some of the most caring, kindhearted people. :biggrin_25514:

Don't get all teary-eyed...we might demand you turn in your man card!

Good luck with your situation! OH BTW, you do understand that rents and housing prices are fairly extreme in the Bay Area....just be forewarned!

Very stubborn. And they don't fit in the side box either so you can't take them with you.

If we don't watch out for each other who will?

Like the Rubber Duck and gang when they busted Spider Mike out of Truckers Hell.

Another thing to consider is many of the larger companies have local or regional positions that will keep your experience up for when you wish to return otr.

Do you have any brothers and/or sisters to help you out with the care of your parents? You are facing quite a task.

There is a POSSIBILITY that you may have to forgo driving a truck for awhile to be able to spend more time with your parents. You may have to find local work either at a local office, plant, retail establishment, supermarket, or a warehouse. These are all jobs that you can perhaps have set hours to accommodate what tasks lie ahead of you in the care of your parents.

10/17/2006, my 2 younger sisters called me back to Hartford CT to help care for our elderly mother. I was living in Wichita KS at the time. I did fly back to help out. I eventually found a job back in Connecticut to have a paycheck coming in.

Also, if you have any brothers and sisters who are currently working, perhaps they can financially assist you until you find a job.
My 2 younger sisters did that for me until I had found a job. In my case, it took 7 months to find a job. LORD WILLING, may your job search be much easier.

In addition to my 2 sisters and I helping out, we also had health care workers working with her both day and night. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, there was enough insurance to cover a lot of these expenses.

SADLY and UNFORTUNATELY, our mother passed away about a year later, (9/30/2007). Our father had passed away 26 years earlier, (7/2/1981).

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

    *UPDATE*

Thought I would add a quick note about what happened the last 7 years(!). That huge amount of time just flew by.
Trying to take care of my parents turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life. I thought I would be driving them around for wine tours, sightseeing trips, concerts, picnics, etc. What I found out is that as people's health declines, they don't even want to leave the house. My mom then had a stroke and my dad's dementia got worse. The stress became so extreme that it brought out the worst in me (or I was already evil & it uncovered it). I honestly don't know how caretakers or people working in nursing homes do it. There are so many emotional lows, nightmare diaper scenarios, deafness, dementia repetitions that try your patience. I can't even put it into words.

Eventually we had to get 2 caretakers - one for day and one for night. That cost $4700 per week! They don't want to leave the house and move into assisted living. But I decided it's best if I go back to trucking because of the morphing I did into an impatient person with simmering rage. I'm not really spiritual but it seems like my initial plan to help them was selfish (I thought it would be easy & fun). But God flipped it around and I got trapped having to face all my shortcomings and even bad things I did as a child were now almost ingeniously replayed with total role reversal (parent now child).
