Maybe @TravR1 will give you tips on books to read concerning that. He will know which computer to use in the truck and any helpful software also.
I used to do it and got burned out, but my wife and 15 yr. old son still do it and make money every day.

I've been self-employed since 2006. Asked a Schneider recruiter about work history issues, and he said it wasn't going to be a big deal as long as the background check came back clean. He specifically said that they were far more interested in what I WASN'T doing (i.e., making license plates in jail) than what I WAS doing.

Which type trucking are you interested in?
Which state do you live in?
Schneider is one of many options.

I'm in Indianapolis. No CDL yet, and Scheider has an in-house training program that sounds reasonable. I can pay out of pocket for CDL training if needed, but since Schneider can train me locally and is willing to not just cover my school, but also pay me during training, it seemed like a pretty solid option.

Do you have some better suggestions?

Short-term, I'm just trying to get my CDL and some miles under my belt, probably with dry van initially. For this stage, money isn't that important to me - I'm more interested in a carrier with good infrastructure, and Schneider seems to fit the bill.

Assuming I enjoy trucking enough to stick with it, my longer-term plan is to be an O/O and work seasonally - probably flatbed, possibly bedbugging. (This is a second career, and the first one was good enough that I don't need to leverage up to get started as an O/O, and don't need a full-time income. I just like to drive, and would prefer that somebody pay me for it!)

I'll give you some more options where you can make more money. Schneider is a solid company, but the pay is low. By low, I mean what you will see weekly is low. This is what their new drivers post on here often and the reason they leave the company.

Here's two dry van companies with cdl training. I know Millis drivers make real good weekly paychecks, but havent' seen much on Mr. "P" Express; mayby they are good also.

If you have a pulse and a CDL with recent experience right now, you're probably going to get hired...... Of course you also need to pass a DOT physical if you don't have one, and have a fairly clean driving record.
