Meat is full of fat whether you can see it or not. Proper diet is No meat, dairy, sugar, or fat. Keep fat levels to a max of 12 grams daily which sorry kids is no burgers.

I was on a strict plant based diet for almost two years before driving a truck. That ended pretty quick. I’m thinking of quitting driving when my med card expires next year so that I can get back on it. Truck stop food is killing me slowly.

If anyone is interested in radically changing your health, try reading a book by Caldwell B. Esselstyn. It could change your life.

Beans and rice is cheap... you can buy lbs. of beans and rice for the cost of a double bacon cheeseburger yet people say it's too expensive to eat healthy. I say we're too lazy to eat healthy. We're all guilty of it one way or another, it's just more obvious with some than others...

I've been using a Hot logic warmer and various plant based prepackaged meals for dinners. It takes some planning but the meals are a lot healthier than anything you can get from the fast food counters in the truck stops.
The other half to a controlling/managing/preventing diabetes is exercise, and that's been really hard for me to do while driving. I used to exercise a couple of times a week before I started driving, and I can feel how I'm worse off for not being able to exercise now.

Diabetes and heart problems go hand in hand. Each makes the other worse in a self perpetuating cycle.

When it comes to diabetes it is mainly the carbs not fats. BUT, If you don't eat enough carbs your body will convert the protein for enery and raise your blood sugar. That is why it is important to eat a well balance diet everyday.

An Endocrinologist suggest no more than 120 carbs a day and breaks it down 30 or less for a meal and 15 for a snack twice a day.

    As for fat:
Beef is 8 grams of fat
Pork is 9 grams of fat
Chicken is 2 grams of fat
Bison is 2.42 grams of fat
Salmon is 12.35 grams of fat.

Meat does have nutritional needs that our bodies need. Iron, protein and yes even fat.

Just like with any food it is all about moderation. Even by your statement of keeping fat under 12 a day (which by the way is not healthy, fat is important for brain health) You could eat meat everyday.

When consuming fat, the National Institute of Medical Academies recommended that 20 - 35% of calorie intake is from HEALTHY fats. Based on a 2000 calories a day that is 44 - 78 grams. For 1500 that would be 33-58 grams, and on a 2500 calories a day that would be 56-97 grams a day.

As for dairy it is important too. It has vitamin D & calcium. It helps with bone and teeth loss. It helps with muscle development. It's also needed for our nerves to relay messages from our brain to our bodies. According to National Institute of Health.

Human beings do not require meat in their diet, nutrients can be sourced elsewhere, its not rocket science.
