Drive tires recommendations? What do you run on your truck?

Roadmasters for your application. I had them on my 94 Pete and had goodluck with them. Only downfall/complaint is they collect a lot of rocks/gravel on the tread. I kept yanking them out. Over all a decent reasonable tire.

 

On my 2014 Pete, I’m running Ameri-Steel. They resist rock/gravel. Best tire I’ve ever ran so far.

 

Any closed shoulder aggressive tread Lugger type. The premium long wear tires are the ones that dry rot on me, before wearing out. I had good Luck with Chinese , I’ve bought 2 sets of drives. They usually only get 75% as much wear as premium tires. The problem you’re having now is probably due more to the casing being old. All depends on price. $2600 - $5000. Lots of choices. Always a different promotion amongst the manufacturers. All in all, I shop around. Get the out the door price, don’t forget to ask about trade in or casing credits. I like Firestone the best, since Bridgestone bought them. Continentals were my favorite set ever, followed by Yoko’s, like Bridgestone, they have 15/16ths maybe? Almost an inch of tread. Great for winter, I’ve found my best deals at T/A. Different ones have different deals. Try to find the one that’s willing to cut a deal. Often on a weekend, when the Shops not busy. When buying a set, I keep in mind road hazards, and availability. Once blew 2 brand new Yoko’s down in Houston. They were new to the Truck market. Had to get 2 new ones in Ky. to keep them all a matched set. They came in on a Sunday. Just to make a Customer happy. Doubt if the Chinese would do that. Lol.

All over. Call to order 2 Michelin lp 24.5 steers 2 months ago. Was told it would be 8 weeks minimum. Got lucky and came up with a set Bridgestone. I didn't need them that day, or week. But 8 weeks would have been a stretch.

 

I think the best bet is to use a national account, and bounce through loves/speedco for 2 tires at a time unless you can find what you want at a local tire dealer. 2 months ago I overpaid for Hankooks because I couldnt get any 24.5 tires on account. Only thing I could get out west was chinesium or continental. I would rather the chinese tires than continentals.

 

Unfortunately, you're going to have to take whatever you can get right now due to stock issues. When I did all my drives in July I put 8 tall 24.5 Marathons on out the door for roughly 450 each. The prices have gone up on everything due to supply and demand.

I did all 8 trailer tires 2 weeks ago and it took me a couple weeks to even find some Roadmaster RM234 tall 24.5s and even those were marked up to roughly 450 each out the door. Can't be too choosy right now. Sad but true.

Outside that, what constitutes a lot of money for a tire in your book?

I would give bandag retreads a go, pick your tread online get a quote.

For drives i prefer new or my own casings but in your case, especially if you luck into michelin m726el or m710, they might get you down towards the 300-350 mark each
