Your very first line of your post, as you replied to Powder Joints post, was what I was trying to comment on.

Quote: "No you shouldnt.....Just dont work on it if its not legal.."

That just struck me kind if funny, since that's basically what your tech does everyday. He mods export radios to be used on 11 meters (like lots of other techs), which technically is considered illegal. That was the only thing I was trying to say. I totally agree with what you said about Powder Joints post. I thought that was strange that he could reduce the power on certain channels or frequencies. But then after thinking about it, I believe that can be done on Motorola business radios, by way of programming them. But I'm not sure.

Im referring to his point of view of if he feels its not legal then dont work on it at all..
Rather than tune/adjust what he likes but detune what he doesnt, thats not fair to the customer..He is basically dictating what you should or shouldnt have from his mind not from any legal stand point.....When i saw his comment the 1st thing that came to me is that he is a "KAREN/KEN"..
Same responce as i said before,if he were to do an oil change on a corvette(example)and decided he didnt like the fact that the car can easily go over the speed limit that he now feels he should detune/restrict ect the cars abilitys..
How does he justify doing so.....
At that point he discovers the power or tune of said radio he then should be contacting the customer to say what is legally allowed and would like to do then based on that chat with customer, detune as per cust req or close up the radio and return untouched...
Its almost as if he is representing the fcc or whom ever..

Now re marks tunes..Be it legal or not the only ones who get upset are the ones that cant/dont have the same abilitys as marks radios....I would have same issue with mark or any tech who decided to police my radio..

    Night Stalker10 Thanks this.

I have 3 EF Johnson cb radios that still work after 40 years. They were made in the USA. They would probably work better if the electrolytic caps were replaced. Great radios as far as CB's go. Of course maybe you were referring to radios of today, then you are correct as far as I know.

No I tune it up correctly, following the factory suggested settings, then I set it to ZERO power out if they do not have a license, and explain to them a FCC license is required. They can listen withit if they want but no talkie talkie till theu get a license. Same as with a CB when it leaves me it will not exceed 4 watts with no more than 100 % modulation.
Tuning and alighing is the same thing.

So far after I have explained to anyone wanting me to work on there radios, is. I will only work within legal limits, So I have told several tha I would not tune there CB's because I will not work on a radio and push it past legal, and the same is true for any other radio or band. I will not knowingly put a radio into a situation causing intentional illegal operation. If you don't like that frankly I could careless. So far I have had several awnt me to realign there CB's, delivered with the sharpest rx I can get, and crystal clear audio with on complaints, as far as Commerical radios I will not setup them up to operate a frequency that is not legal. explained before I ever touch them. HAM radio, never had a complaint. I do not convert 10 meter radio. Radio work is done in my spare time between runs, I do not touch for a living anymore, just hobby.

My license's are the ones at stake, anyone I deal with knows me, {anyone wanting a bleeder need to take it somewhere else} and that I run legal, and there radio is not going to go up in smoke, and Yes Motorola has provisions for rf/af independant of each other, but I have never run into an issue with a commerical customer, the radios running digitial formats the repeaters can control rf/af, only on direct direct theres no advantage of overdriving anything.
