I think I’m mellowing out in my old age. I read what other drivers are having issues about at their respective companies and it has me opening my eyes as to how pretty good I have it here. Now listen closely to what I’m going to say. I wrote how good “I” have it here. Like in the 8.5 years driving here. I can’t talk about anyone else that’s been here, the fresh meat hitting the seat, just me. Between my base CPM, monthly bonuses, year end bonus, vacation pay that’s based on weekly average, and $3000 company match in my 401K, I’ve realized that all those monetary things, plus the lanes I enjoy running, the same customers, the relationships I’ve made, the non micromanaging, I have it pretty good. Add to that that I am a short timer in this chosen field of work, the light at the end of the tunnel is the end of the tunnel and not the train. It doesn’t matter to me one iota who owns this company, my check is there every week, never a mistake in it, albeit just once this year, and, with the parent company being as financially sound as it is, I’m sure I can hang on a little while longer. I’ve said for a while now, if Abilene doesn’t run me off, I’ll hang up my flip flops here. As frustrated as I sometimes get with operations, it’s not enough for me to leave this OTR company and start fresh at another OTR company, especially with a year left.

I wish I was as close to retirement as you, John, although then I’d be older, so I guess that’s okay.

Its just a number. Except some days I feel and act spry and nowhere near my 65 years, other days I feel like I’m 95, which happens more than the spry part.

This and their willingness to get me home when I need to get home are the reasons I keep driving for Abilene.

I normally pay my rent online.

For some reason, I have not been able to pay my rent online this month. Website simply...wouldn't work for me. Finally called the tech support number and discovered that, for reasons surpassing my understanding, my online payment account has been closed by the property management company and couldn't be re-opened. Which meant that I had to get back to Richmond to have a check in the drop box by today.

I called dispatch, explained my situation, told 'em I had to get back to Richmond to avoid a $100 late fee, and they did just that. Rolled in this afternoon around 12:45pm. Rent is now paid.

I could probably make $5000 more a year somewhere else. But when I hear about what kinda headaches I'd have to put up with to get that $5000, I figure it's worth the cut in pay to stay here and get treated like a grown-up.

At the pasta spot in Sc, headed for Front Royal one of these days.

Had a bh down close to Miami yesterday and they deadheaded me to the Savannah yard.

Just a heads up we're only now using the yard on yhe corner, not the one with the keypad.290 telfair rd.

Had a delivery in south Louisiana yesterday. Small town very near where my brother lives. Delivery took forever. Appointment time was 6:00am local, and it's a Hill-Phoenix/Family Dollar delivery, so they called me at 3:00am Richmond time to make sure I was going to be there on time.

Got there at 5:25am local. They didn't show up until 7:15am and they didn't start unloading me until almost 9:00am, so I'm glad I busted my ### to get there on time. Ended up putting in for two hours of detention.

Left there, drove to Baton Rouge, picked up a load of mirrors at a Home Depot. Spent the night in their dock because I ran out of hours while they were loading me.

Left Baton Rouge this morning, headed for McDonough, GA. Really needed to drop a deuce and take a shower. And every truck stop along I-12 was closed.

    It was a long morning.

Finally got showered at the TA in Slidell. Currently sitting at the Pilot in Jackson, GA. Heading to the Savannah drop yard tomorrow, and thence to Marianna, FL.
