My company driver is averaging $1.13/mile on W-2. Truck gross was $4+/mile last month. That's for reefer

Maybe you should consider working on percentage but make sure they show you the real load sheet. These days it's easy to get $4/mile

So your driver grossed before taxes over $13,000 last month? Working 23 days?

Correct. That was the last 5 weeks so over a month. 2 weeks he only worked 4 days/week. He gets 28% of gross on W-2.
The rates were quite high the last couple of month.

Good for you. I’ve never been a fan of percentage. Times like now your grossly overpaying for the driver. When times are #### don’t expect him to stick with you. Loyalty is rare in this deal. Or, he will see how much the truck is making and buy his own then run the freight you are running.

    Lucky man/woman right now though.

I don't see this as overpaying because the more he makes the more my company makes as well. Rates fluctuate but even in March/April truck would still make over $3/mile so that's about 85 cpm to driver.

No, the more YOU make, the more he makes. You have that backwards. Does this driver dispatch, find loads, do billing, pay for everything, and take on most all of the risk? If the answer is no then I’m correct, you have it backwards.

If you are struggling to make your truck payment, your mortgage, put food on the table, pay the bills, Will he loan you money or take care of the expenses? No, he will say adios.

His job doesn’t change whether you are making a ton of money, skimming by, or going broke. His pay shouldn’t change based off those things either. He should make fantastic money, but it not be tied to revenue.
