Can I take my tests and use a day cab/20' trailer to get a CDL?

I have the money to take the tests and rent a truck for the actual CDL test, but would I get hired?

Yes, you dont need a sleeper and any lenght of trailer with air brakes is fine.

It's expensive enough to insure a new driver with no driving history in a CMV. Getting an agent to insure a driver without a training certificate requires you to grab your ankles and call him, "Daddy". Most companies won't do it.

Good f'in god, what a what a runaround trying to get to solid info on that. Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right.

Even before your post I spent 45 minutes in click-bait hell trying to find out if I qualify and what schools offered training. I still have 11 open pages on my computer and nothing to show for it. If government were a company they'd file bankruptcy for ineptitude.

2. If you can't afford training, how about using FREE gub'mint money?

a. Go here.
b. Select your state.
c. You will be directed to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) site for your state with information on how to apply for the program and generate a list of approved trucking schools that will train you.

Air Brakes are a given. I know of no Class 8 truck and VERY few CMVs with a GVRW of 18,000+ that uses hydraulic brakes. I highly advise you to get your state's CDL driving manual and know the Air Brake and Combination Vehicle sections forward and backward.

I'm glad you brought up the testing centers having vehicles to use. This is also happening with people wanting to test to be School Bus Drivers. However, getting a rental from a rental business is almost impossible.

I can think of carriers local here in SoCal where he would have a good chance of being hired, Robertson Ready Mix, Cemak, Apex Bulk, Bender Ready Mix, Arrow Ready Mix, plus numerous bottom dump companies. Most of the Driver mills will hire him they will just put him with a trainer. Back in the day I rented a truck and trailer from USTruck driving school, I just meet them at the San Bernardino DMV when they were testing their students. Then went to work for Lilttle Audrey Trucking with my Dad as my trainer.

I figure the whole ball of wax is about 1k. I make a decent income online now, and I am not giving it up for an unanswered question; will I be happy driving for a mega and being in debt?
