You have to have 0 business sense to be going broke in this business. Even at $2/mile you can stay afloat.
Driver has an incentive to run shorter loads if he gets paid almost the same as longer ones. I usually prefer 300 miles paying me $1700 than 500-600 miles paying $2000. But with per mile pay all he would care is getting more miles.
Owner op paid per mile.
