Tanker companies governed speed

    Just out of curiosity, are there any OTR tanker companies that go over 65 mph? I hauled fuel regionally, and we were governed at 75 mph, but it wasn't true OTR and I'm asking about chemical as opposed to fuel. I'm not looking to switch companies, but I thought it would be a good topic. I can't imagine the insurance companies would be too crazy about insuring chemical tanker trucks that go 70+ mph.

    The insurance companies usually don't say much unless the drivers are getting an abnormal amount of speeding tickets.

    By "abnormal" some of the insurance companies consider any speeding tickets to be unacceptable. Our tankers, both fuel and dry bulk, were geared for 72 but the drivers were paid by the hour so their was no incentive to speed.
    We had one driver that we had to put on a dirt truck because he picked up two speeding tickets in five years and the insurance wouldn't cover him on haz mat anymore.

    I'm regional food grade. I can get 67 out of my truck.

    There's a chemical outfit in Ohio, Kuhnle Trucking, that runs large cars that regularly blow my doors right off.

    We're at 69 at Elliott. Personally I like 65 on cruise control. Leave those extra 4 miles for passing slower vehicles or getting out of a sudden bind.

    Corporate policy (Linde) dictates we are limited to under 65 so shop sets us up at 64.9..lol
    And we run in 80mph states.
    While it can be frustrating, running 500 to 600 miles a day and not able to overtake anything, the company is self insured and their csa score reflects the commitment to safety, we do lose productivity because of it.
    Frustrating yes, but less stressful than trying to judge a pass w similar speeds a hundred times a day imho.
    I just sit back and enjoy the view.
    At this point I treat it as a job and not a lifestyle.
    I haven't been pulled over or issued a ticket since the late 80s.
