Just got this Freightliner with an n14.
First turbo was shot and massive compression loss.
Changed out the turbo with an aftermarket turbo how ever it didn't even last 1000 miles without sounding like the fins were hitting the housing. Checked tolerance and sure enough everything was fine but I installed a turbo from fleetpride to see what happens.
Same noise happened a little while after the first load.
No restrictions in the oil, oil psi 30-35, no metal found in the first replacement turbo.
Going to check over the turbo inlet first thing in the morning just to make sure.
Sounds like the turbo waste gate stays partially open and letting off the throttle sounds like bearings winding down.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Will it make the noise when you let off the throttle while parked, or only under load?
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Not aware of a n14 built with a waste gate ever.
Maybe they did, just never seen or heard of one.
Was the turbine or compressor side damaged?BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -

Does exhaust housing look a normal color on the failef turbos? Does it seem to have normal power or is it lacking. I am thinking of a cac leak or an exhaust restriction issue
