My mechanic discovered oil coming out of my turbo before my air 2 air boot.
I've been told by 3 shops that it's bad or that it's going bad because of this.
Had it taken to international and they it's not bad. That they found a small leak in the charge air cooler and the air 2 air boot. Which there saying the pressure loss would cause oil to come up through.
Reguardless I've always been told that a turbo spitting oil isn't good and will fail. Is international trying to pull one over on me?
Is my turbo failing?

If your turbo impellers aren’t contacting the housing and there is next to no end play your turbo should be fine.

But you guys are saying a little oil is okay?
My truck is at an international oil where they have "thoroughly" gone through the truck and turbo and say the turbo is fine. Just that there was a boost leak on the charge air cooler. -
If you idle truck at low rpm some will have fuel slobber which looks like oil if clamps are leaking . If turbo is still on warranty sometimes they are hesitant to change it .

Turbos used to have actual seals and would not leak at all.
Now the holset has switched to a seal similar to a piston ring where it needs pressure to seal. Without pressure it will puke oil.
If you were to disconnect the boost hose it would puke oil out as it has no pressure on the sealing rings.
A hole in the charge air cooler causes the same thing. International is correct.Ross_Tech, Heavyd, irishluck09 and 4 others Thank this. -

Might not hurt to replace the crankcase vent filter.
Ross_Tech Thanks this. -
Along with boost leaks, and restricted crankcase vents as mentioned above, a restricted exhaust can also cause the pressure differential to make a turbo push oil. Take a look at this chart.
