Rate Discrepancy between usa and Canada

    What is going on with the huge gap between Canadian rates amd usa rates? Its significant.

    Speaking with some American drivers down in the usa these guys are hauling DRY VAN'S for 3 bucks US a mile. What's dry van in Canada 1.80 if your lucky? I struggle to get 2.50 a mile with flat deck work.

    Are the brokers really stealing that kind of revenue off the loads? Like people have mentioned in numerous threads the price of parts/tires is through the roof. Shop rates are out to lunch esp compared to the American counter parts. Your a minimum 1000 bucks every time it goes in the shop regardless what for.

    What are we doing wrong in Canada?

    Too many carriers in Canada running for too little freight.
    Some of them were written up in a Globe and Mail article a few years ago after the Humboldt crash.
    They hire only drivers from overseas, charge the driver up to $30,000 to guarantee a job here and promise them a path to Canadian citizenship. Then run them down the road for 15 cents a mile or less so they can basically just eat.
    It’s hard for a standard carrier to compete against that and have to pay a driver 50 cents a mile.

    This is all to true, the guy I was speaking with brokers loads to a group of Somalians and said he can't beleive how cheap they will run freight up to manitoba for, he says he makes more brokering that freight then hauling it on his own trucks that are owner operators as well.

    Spoke with another fellow in Canada, a Filipino who was and O/O and leases his truck on to a B.c company amd they pay him just over 80 cents a mile as an O/O. That's gross, but his own fault for doing it as well

    Yup - and carriers who have all their authorities in order have a hard time competing - just saying not sure how they will sustain the rate - less than $1.2 from the US

    i’ve heard that Guys in the states with their own authority pulling dry vans are up to 20k a week right now working off the spot market and load boards . apparently even guys who did flatbed and tanker have moved over to dry van because of the rates due to covid. old dryvan trailers are bringing big $$$ right now due to a huge shortage on new trailers same for older pre emissions trucks due to the chip storage

    hell even sea containers just for storage are way up my dad bought one 2 years ago for $2900 delivered now he just paid over 4k . Everyone’s buying them up and hoarding supplies in them

    So why such a gap from Canada to the usa rates? Even the freight from USA to Canada or vice versa in dry vans doesn't come close

    Because we are told we need to import Millions of people over the next few years. A big portion end up in trucking. The good thing is a lot of them are now bypassing the carrier that got them started and directly hauling for the shipper. Maybe that’s why companies are limiting how many trucks you can have..

    This entire country is going to complete ####, that’s why.

    O/Os working for .90c/mile gross (their fuel, insurance and numbers)

    Engineers work for $38 500 a year now

    Skilled Trades jobs are minimum wage.

    Bingo i talked to one local canada cartage owner op and he said a toronto to brampton run is only paying $60 .the us is starting to see a big increase in immigration from places like indian also same with australia and guess what industry they go to you guess it trucking . why you may ask because why spend 4+ years going to college or university when you may make less then some trucking jobs .trucking is not very hard to get into and many new canadians think they’re other buddies are making millions when there not vs some with a degree .believe me i’ve heard it from more then one south asian that’s in trucking some we’re highly educated back home but here in canada doesn’t mean much
