I went to CDL School a little over 3 years ago. It was a company that offered paid CDL training if I agreed to a 1 year contract. With a home every night City driver job.
They send me to CDL school at a community college. First day our senior instructor and he repeatedly referred to himself as the senior instructor tells us those that make it will have to go OTR for at least a year before we’ll be able to get a local job.
I say out loud that’s not true I already have a local job lined up their paying for this school. The Senior Instructor looked like he was gonna blow a gasket and he went on a long speech how in his day they had to earn their stripes. And then he goes on and on about what’s wrong with this industry and I’m thinking at some point we’re actually gonna get in a truck right ?Gearjammin' Penguin, Doylee4693, born&raisedintheusa and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, some uninformed people still preach that every new driver must "pay their dues" by going OTR for minimum of a year.
That's all just BS and like saying to be a real man you have to drive a stick shift and refuse to work for any company that uses automatics.a.paul, homeskillet, Doylee4693 and 1 other person Thank this. -
A community college instructor should be better than a private CDL school but there's bound to be some tools everywhere. Shackdaddy what school or state was that in?
I'm actually thinking of company training but there's nothing close to me. I also keep reading over and over a school just teaches enough to get your license. Then can someone explain to me why companies won't hire someone with a CDL already that got it years ago at a workplace because they didn't go to school? (It's still current with endorsements HM and tanker)They want you to go through and pay for school and it doesn't make sense and seems contradictory. I don't have a problem paying part of the cost but not the whole amount for a license I already have.Last edited: Sep 17, 2021

I meant it, one guy posted a situation with his driving trainer at a company, I don’t think Lysol would help much, everything would have to be sanitized constantly.
Remember?

the ONLY cones that i moved, and the students actually wanted a challenge, was the "straight back"
they wanted to try some sort of "snake backing" challenge.
so i did, and they ate it up.....well, they ate some cones at first...lol
then it was back to normal straight backing for the new students, but when they saw that, and what the older students can do, they were "gung-ho" to master backing.
good times.Trucker61016, Snailexpress, N00bLaLoosh and 2 others Thank this. -
