Well my understanding of the bypass is that you can't just plug it.

They actually sell a bypass cover that you put on to it. My transmission is oil-cooled not antifreeze cool. So that may be a different story with an antifreeze cooler.

I was told that if you're not traveling Long Haul and you're not over 400 horsepower that you can bypass it but I was told not to put plugs in. They said to use the actual bypass cover which costs like 10 or $15.

Lines are still connected. Just had to reroute them slightly and used a coupler to reconnect them together. I’ll keep an eye on the transmission temp gauge. Most likely I will probably go with the “air cooled” route if it starts running a little hot, but I highly doubt that will happened.

Dave, I think you will be O.K. I have done it many times, but my customers run mostly midwest with little hills.

Diesel Dave and Magoo1968 Thank this.

When I drained the old gear oil, it was beyond full. I was expecting it to be like a chocolate milk shake in color due to the coolant leaking in the cooler, but it wasn’t. That’s what threw me off when I had checked the gear oil in the beginning. So when I finally threw in the towel to bypass the trans cooler to see if that was the problem cause the truck was leaving small puddles after being parked over night. When I checked the puddle on the black top, it looked like gear oil BUT, it had a red dye stringy looked. And I had been losing coolant slightly. The pan that had the drained coolant just looked like red dye all over it. Only conclusion was the defective transmission cooler. A drivetrain guru mentioned to me that some of the newer trucks don’t run anymore transmission coolers, there just filled and sealed.
