No. The bottom third of the stack gets too hot to touch, but not near hot enough to damage the paint.

Thanks, kinda annoying to have already gotten a good inverter earlier this year, but guess i have a spare then.

4 batt setup atm, all wet high cca.
I assume the wise move is to add a seperate bank of deep cycle or lifepo to run hotel load charged with shore or generator?

Bearing in mind, main hotel load is just the 12 v ac system. Supposedly eats about 210 ah per 10 hrs

I run everything off the truck batteries (4 750cca) except for the AC, that runs strictly on the generator.

If I had a diesel generator, then I'd probably use an auto-start module and run the AC off the truck batteries as well.

Yes, if my ac was 110 thatd also make sense, but it isnt, so not exactly an option.

That said i settled on the predator 3500 for relative cheapness and availability anywhere on the road coupled with

Plug & Play Remote Start & Stop Kit for Predator/Powerhorse 3500 Inverter Generator

Gave me the cheapest remote start.

at the price of a diesel generator, id probably just have dropped a brand new apu on

    Atm
    Remote kit 100
    Generator 800
Wiring and ends (1/0 sae welding and batt cable)/ shorepower plugin/cord 250
    Hydraulic Crimping tool 150
Ac unit 12v 1700 (12v and r134a, very small form factor, rear mount, so works with headache rack))

Into the setup 3k already so add the inverter/charger and Im probably at 4 k.

If i go the webasto heater init, guess nother 1k.
And if it generates a good amount, might try a thermoking flexible solar panel on the truck roof for lower generator operation (1k)

Part of the deal for me is the ability to easily remove and reinstall on a different truck if needed. So still fits the bill pretty well, and cheaper than an apu by close to half for such a cobbled together "system"

here is my setup with a 1 ton mini split and predator 3500 inverter. its been running 400 hours with 0 issues. i have it on the back of the cab, with a reefer trailer. i do not have any exhaust extension . and i do have a c02 sensor inside my cab just in case. if you have a well insulated truck, fumes shouldnot go in it. also try to park in ventilated areas that way air could pass thru between the gap.

I guarantee if you park next to my Volvo with the exhaust pointed at it on a night where the air still, you'll set off my CO detector. I don't know why these holes are there, but they run all along the outside edge of the cab and lead directly to the interior.

The first generator I had on here was a little Ryobi. The very first night I ran it, I scooted it out to the edge of the catwalk, exhaust pointed away and went to bed. I woke up a little earlier than I wanted because the CO alarm was beeping and saying, "Warning! Carbon Monoxide!"

Even someone else running a generator from a couple trucks away will cause mine to have a reading--I check it every morning.

Please be kind to your neighbors and hook up an exhaust stack.

It would be easy to run some 3/4" conduit alongside your exhaust stack, @harold6091. The stack doesn't go up and down with the cab.

This Espar heater pipe will fit the exhaust stub on the muffler of that Predator perfectly if you remove the spark arrestor. Be sure to reinstall the two bolts so you don't have leaks. Cut a little of the plastic around where the pipe sticks out so you can get a small ratchet in there to hose clamp it to the pipe. Permatex Ultra Copper makes a good seal.

The Espar stuff is $75 a box but I cut it in half and get one year out of each piece before it needs replaced.

I'm curious as to when you purchased your 3500? I still have my original with probably 6000 hours on it and it still works, albeit the display panel no longer does.

After going through 4 or 5 replacement Predators that would only go 200-300 hours before they'd quit, I switched to a Honda EG2800i. I still have the last Predator that I bought and can't get it to run. It has no spark. There is a little module that I believe is for the low oil sensor mounted on the side of the case, the same one that will cause them not to run if they get wet... pretty sure it's bad.

Actually my truck really isn't tiny. at all... I do have enough room to mount a generator on my catwalk and that's most likely what I'm going to do.

And just a funny side note for all the stretched out trucks.

In the past I've seen them come in and struggle to back in and all that kind of stuff but now in the last maybe 2 weeks I've seen something completely different.

I pull into a place that's tight to back into to begin with. But when you are assigned the slot that's next to a giant stretched out truck that's already backed in, the amount of room that you have to work with is significantly less because that truck sticks out in front of everybody else 12' or whatever it is. So once again it's always better to have a truck that's nice and maneuverable...

Because at some point in time you're going to need that maneuverability not just for places that are tight, but to maneuver around some great big gigantic stretched out truck that is now in your way because it is a gigantic colossal big stretched out truck.

In the words of the great philosopher Jerry Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that'...

It's just that that sort of thing is not my lifestyle choice.
