Why you’re only hurting yourself at the end of the day?
I don’t get the hate on automatic trucks.
All of mine have been fine except the first year when I was always slamming into the dock, but now I’m smoother then 90% of guys who have a clutch.
I can even hook to a trailer smooth enough I could balance a cup on my mirror and it not spill.

the only complain I have is they accelerate off the line slowly and want to keep the RPMS low. (Tho mines not a rev limiter so I can take it up to 1800rpm if I want)

It’s not progressive neutral as others have surmised. You won’t drop more than a few miles per hour before it kicks itself back into gear. You can override this annoying feature by keeping your foot on the pedal, after awhile you’ll sense when it’s about to coast and can cancel it out.

I shifted for 15 years and reluctantly got into an auto 4 years ago. Paccar has them dialed pretty well now and they’re getting better. The early ones were horrendous though. I don’t ever want to shift again.

It’s not hurting me one bit. I left that company 1 1/2 year ago, now at a yard that doesn’t even have auto in the fleet(YIPPEE).

iit.its programmed to do that for fuel economy... This feature can be setup to perform in several different ways depending on what parameters are set in the computer. Its called E-Coast or Economy+ and probably a few other things by different truck manufactures. In Volvos you can prevent this by putting it into manual mode.

On a highway in my truck I can lock it in 11th gear and cruise at 60 mph at 1300, which anybody with more than 10 minutes of driving experience knows is simply easier on the equipment. That also solves both the idiot coast problem and the lugging that this automatic boat anchor keeps trying to do. On the newest ones you can’t even do that anymore thanks to some engine speed limiter that comes with manual mode.

The hate those junkpiles get is well deserved.

I'm retired, still, just the thought of coasting a CMV with the driveline disengaged makes me want to go screaming into the night!

I won’t even get in one of those devices to move it across the yard. No physical connection between the driver and the engine, no physical connection between the driver and the transmission and a box with a wrist sized bundle of wires coming out of it controlling the brakes. Sorry, the thing is out of control as soon as the parking brake is off.

At the risk of offending some people, there is a REAL reason a disconnected driveline is so dang dangerous. EVEN an auto-shift can be affected by this. Transmissions in the class 8 Trucks are not synchronized. If you change gear while going downhill sometimes you can "miss" a gear! I know of about five drivers that are doing the eternal snooze today because of missing a gear! Even an auto shifter will have trouble with this. I have always spoken favorably with regard to auto shifter transmissions. Nothing about this has changed. Personally, I rather drive a manual, but I don't look at someone that drives an auto shifter as less of a driver! STILL, it is important to remember these transmissions have weaknesses and this is one of them. This and the tendency for them to "jump" in tight spots is something a driver should always remember!
