Yep, especially when running parts of Dixie and the east coast.

There's advantages to running at night..
Hitting deer and driving in snow aren't 2 of them.

I started part time working for a local truck dealership moving trucks and trailers. Then I live hauled turkeys for a few months. Went onto regional over the road with a flatbed or step deck. Moved after four years to local food service. Stayed just shy of three years and am hauling gas now locally. Best paying and easiest job I’ve had. They are paying you not to make mistakes.

I guess the plan should be to try different types of trucking along the way

I tried Walmart Dedicated, Costco Dedicated, Regional OTR, Local Beverage Delivery. None of those checked all of the boxes for me. I prefer LONG HAUL Solo. I found a company that offered that. Couldn't be happier. There is no one size fits all in trucking.

A tier implies that there is a higherarchy involved when it really is almost a lateral move.

a five year plan should allow you to figure out what by year three what you would enjoy.

Here is an example, after a million and a half plus miles on the road, i went local. I thought I would enjoy p&d work but I hated it. So I went into temp driving and loved heavy hauling as a temp driver, the money was less than what people think, I averaged $1k a week net but it wasn’t about money but the ability to go home at the end of the day. My second job choice which I didn’t achieve was co2 delivery to food places or nitrogen delivery to manufacturing plants, everyone I talked to loved doing that work because it was not just easy but can be a little challenging at times.

I just see all the different types of trucking and was wondering if the tanker guy has it better than the car hauler or the air gas guy is loving his gig
