I wouldn't run bobtail for that. It's ridiculous. That's barely getting by money.

Right now rates are good, which makes it easy. But at some point they will drop.

I’m confused. I work for Genox and make great money and don’t work hard at all. Pay depends on which customer you work for. At $1.18 a mile and you run 3500 miles a week plus unloading and loading times plus fuel surcharge, you can make money. But you have to want to work. If you need to be home every week, you won’t make money. I started with them in January and I’ve made 6 figures at least.

I call bovine excrement. You have barely GROSSED six figures.
    37 weeks so far this year. 37 x 1.18 x 3,500 = $152,810.

Fuel alone would be about $50,000.
Maintenance / depreciation close to $40K.

Unless accessory pay is close to half your mileage pay, you would have done better as a company driver.

They don’t want to share the wealth with the owner operators…. That $1.18 is a insult. Especially now. You can get $3 a mile almost anywhere.

Cryo pays top dollar. Genox is getting a great rate to pull the loads. But they aren't offering the L/P guys a whole lot. I've heard many horror stories about Genox. And they say thats why the current owner of LGT left genox to start her own company. Because of some of the B/S that was going on back then.

Argon and liquid hydrogen pays the most. Like $5 a mile at times. While CO2 and Nitrogen are cheaper. But more needed. And LOX is in the middle. But its highly needed at hospitals since the Rona outbreak. So there's a big need for the freight.

However Genox, Southern Pines, LGT, US Cryo, CTI/Keenan, or another 3rd party carriers of cryogenic freight are doing pretty good right now. Because the private cryogenic carriers/producers can't keep drivers at all.

I’m not overly concerned with “Gross” as much as I am profit. The more miles I have to turn to make those six figures the less I get to actually see. To each their own and it sounds like you’re happy where you are. I actually ended up leasing on with an 80/20 company with full dispatch control. I run 4.5-5 days a week and do quite well. I’d have to really drag my feet to not eclipse $6,500 gross before the lease company gets their share. Typically I average around $3.25-3.40 pm but I’m super picky where I go and how heavy the haul is. I don’t wanna end up hauling 44k in the box and ending up in a market that I can’t get what I want or where I have to bounce 80 plus miles to get load that fits my criteria. So far my empty miles for this year are right around 10-11 percent which includes a big bobtail run to get my trailer. Granted, now with fuel climbing the ladder again I may have to re-evaluate the brick I drive down the road. Lol. May be time to join the White Volvo Mafia.

I wanna say at this time last year when I was contracted on to AirGas via Coastal that Nitrogen was priced out at $2.85 a mile / $40 an hour pump/wait time plus a slim FSC and $50 stop fee. The key to that though was that it was Airgases product sold by AirGas. When we purchased the product from AirGas and sold it to our customer it was a whole different ballgame. It’s a hard pill to swallow that you’re getting around 38% with the example of GenOx. Then chasing miles to hit that big number ya gotta be careful. 3500 miles can turn in to $2300 plus just in fuel.

    Nail on the head

I’m at genox now, have been for over a year. Since Lonnie’s dumb ### got in Mike’s seat, and Kevin let his wife take the other half of the reins, this place has gone to hell.

Avoid genox like the plague. Only reason I haven’t left is because I am incredibly lazy and getting another job is a pain in the ### I don’t feel like dealing with.

Probably heading to LGT next spring, just grinning and bearing it through the winter.
