Hi all, freshly minted driver in the GTA doing some research on food service companies and was hoping for some current information from anyone at Sysco or GFS. Schedule, equipment, routes, stops / cases per day (lift gate / hand bombing), etc. Thanks much in advance!

When I called Sysco recruiting 2 months back I got some information from them. As a new driver you will be doing all your deliveries in downtown Toronto, 15-20 per day. You will need to break down the skids yourself and unload the freight piece by piece.

75% of the time is spent doing physical labor, and 25% spent driving.

Seems very physical, starts at $28.10 per hour I believe.

Takes a few years to build seniority to get better runs.

As for GFS I'm not sure.

Good info, thanks for the reply! Anyone currently at GFS around here? I noticed they're advertising a $3000 signing bonus as well for drivers.

GFS is the better company, an Ex-Bison buddy is on his second week there, he's doing deliveries to Mall food courts and strip malls. Says its a lot of work, but nothing un-reasonable. (this is in Calgary/Crossiron)

I see the same GFS and Sysco transfer drivers every week, the GFS guys seem happy and we chat a bit at the Flying J in Nisku/Balgonie/Headingly. The Sysco guys look like they're one bad joke away from committing a spree shooting; they also speed excessively with the triples.

Food service distribution will get you a herniated disk or a ddd or both. No matter how careful or smart you going to lift those boxes
