I got pulled over the other day for a level 3 as I was leaving a Loves. He checked my paperwork and asked me what was in the trailer. On that particular load I knew what I was hauling, but many times I've picked up a preloaded sealed trailer off the yard, didn't recognize the receiver, the BOL was nothing but meaningless numbers and all I had was a weight. Can you tell a DOT cop you don't know what you have? You're not required to know, are you? I mean if you aren't the one who picked up the load from the shipper why would you need to know? Just so it's not hazmat and its not overweight I don't care what it is.
Level 3 insp. and blind loads? Can you be cited for not knowing?

I beleive the bol is required to list whats being transported, in theory this allows the officer to verify it is not hazmat, after all, no one would ever LIE about that right?
In reality, he just wants to know so he can mark down what commodity youre hauling to put in his dot inspectionBigTizle, WildTiger1990, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
Why did you drive right into their trap? Where was this at? Sounds like idaho or montana pulling u over from a truck stop. They are like cheap lazy ######. Dont wanna do any work so lets just park by the truckstop and pull over the first truck we see and harrass the driver for no reason at all.
Last Call, mitmaks and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
I'm not above lyin' here, or at least being as vague as possible. I am REAL general when asked this question.
"What are you hauling?"
"Building supplies", that covers a lot.
"Medical equipment", same.
"Machine parts/auto parts", can't go wrong there.
If it ever goes so far that you are caught in a lie, just play dumb and say oops, that was my last load.zaroba, CorsairFanboy, austinmike and 3 others Thank this. -
Want to see what's in the trailer? Sign off the BOL then break the seal.

It determines things like where you can park and when/where you can run.
Well, you can do "whatever" for however long your luck lasts. Some people pull it off for an entire career.
It may, or may not, be an issue depending on your luck at any given moment.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
