GP Transco 6 month review

    Pros-
    Equipment- well maintained, addresses any issue you may have.

    Pay- pay is great .60cents if you want a camera on you. . 58 without. Pretty good about paying detention, driver assist and stop pay. They pay you “all” miles ran. All your deadhead and address to address. Coming from a company that kept roughly 10% and used the excuse “that’s industry standard” it adds up.

    No Macros- no typing in repetitive nonsense just to leave a shipper

    Miles- Normally get what’s advertised 2700-3200

    cons-

    Dispatchers-You will run into a variety with different styles. Ive had 5 in 6months. My first 2 were awesome. Would trust you to stack loads on you and usually run spot market. My last 2 wouldn’t give you over 500 miles if there life depended on it. Jury still out on #5

    Miles- Yes was a pro as well. This sorta ties to dispatch as well. They constantly want to run you to Chicago to drop at HQ. Not so much my first 2 dispatcher but next 2 constantly run you out 500miles. Then back to HQ or at least suburban Chicago.

    Location- Again you better get used to Chicagoish I80ish. You will pass through there sometimes twice a day. I mean it’s doable and you should know that going in. But that still don’t make you look forward to it.

    You will live on I 80 and run Midwest. Lots of South Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, western Michigan. In 6 months I’ve had probably 6 drop and hooks. You will get good miles normally at 500 a time, each dispatcher runs different as in recaps etc. Myself I have no real complaints, money is good (for me) I wish runs were longer. I wish there was more variety. They are growing and hiring always. I plan to stay a few more years.

    That’s fair. Morale is pretty high there. Most like it. Personally I’m not a fan of 500 mile runs a day. There’s usually 3 hours of your day wasted getting loaded and unloaded. So most days are 14 hour days. I’m pretty content. I don’t see much info on here about them. For some reason they like to use social media (which is fine) but they bring in you tubers that’s worked for god knows how many outfits and expect people to take them serious. So I understand people’s trepidation

    That’s BS…..less pay without the camera. Thought cameras were all about safety?

    It started out that way, until these companies saw how much it was costing them in the long run.

    Oh yea they have a monthly fuel bonus as well. 1cent on miles ran for the month. They email a mid month and a end of month update. Unsure the criteria as I’ve never gotten the bonus.

    I worked there for 6 months, and the cons you listed ended up being a part of me leaving. It felt like a new job every time I left hometime because I usually ended up with a new dispatcher. Some were better than others. Some were terrible. Midwest was easy, consistent miles, but I did get burnt out pretty quick. Pay was good for a dry van company. I think they need some planners to help maximize driver hours. There was a lot of times I’d have 20 hours on duty time, but they’d send me a 750 mile load and tell me to do a 34 reset with 8 hours left on my 70. If people are okay with mostly Midwest, it’s a great company as far as consistency and pay. I just can’t justify weeks out at a time if I’m not getting the OTR adventure and variety

    Ended up leaving for the reefer side of things and I’m happier now. I’ve had a 2600 mile load, two 1400 mile loads, and an 1800 mile load. Seen both coasts, and have been in 30 different states in my first 4 weeks here. I do miss the laid back, no macros, ‘here’s your load. Deliver it. You’re a grown up, you don’t need to give me updates’ attitude at GP and the equipment, especially the trucks, were top notch.

    My biggest pet peeve is every time they made a policy change that they knew drivers wouldn’t like, they made sure to remind you ‘the only way we can continue the ‘great’ pay is to make these changes’, as if we shouldn’t have concerns because the pay was good.

    Spot on. When I first heard of them there pay was great. A lot has changed in the last 18 months to where the pay is above average but not great. Other places now pay as well or close. It definitely gets on my nerves to have a day on my clock and have to set over the weekend. If a company wants you to stay out 3-4 weeks they should at least give you a 1000 mile load for Friday and Saturday for Monday delivery. I mean some people enjoy 500 a day, if they ran recaps it wouldn’t be so bad to have day runs. Myself if I’m away from home and am resetting with a day left on my clock is unacceptable. Yes they claim 48 state , more like a 4-8 state.
