Big guy on the bottom two pics has had a temp CDL and has been on the truck with me learning. Passed his CDL exam this morning, coming to work with me at the company I run for. No school or CDL mill involved. Top two pics are my youngest son driving on private property, maybe another flatbedder in the making. Unfortunately guberment won’t let me train him up old school.

Yeah ain’t it a cryin shame. I’ve trained dozens of drivers over the years. I went to dmv way back in the day and just walked in and got mine too (1991) I think?

That’s a thing of the past come next year.

It's so fricking stupid that you can't train anyone yourself anymore. Pretty much everyone I know got their cdl without a "certified" school and are better drivers because of it. Gonna be even harder now to find new part time drivers if you have to pay a few $$$ for school to get cdl

Yet some clown with a month experience at a CDL mill can train somebody.

Thanks. They’re a good group of kids. It amazes me though that they have the same mom and dad and brought up in same house with same rules and how unique each one is yet how similar they are at times.

I bought my first truck and started driving with a Chauffeur license before CDL was a thing. I remember the slogan for CDL being.... to keep the best of the best on the road. I have found that to be untrue!!

Sadly a lot of Dads, brothers, uncles with years of experience are better teachers than what the driver mills have, but we got to have that $$ trail though don’t we.....
