Can Megas still recruit in the Covid Era

Just remember, Uber drivers, and uber eats food delivery drivers will brag about making $1,500 a week, ask them come April 15th how great that $1,500 a week feels when they give Uncle Sugar his cut. Sure, all that mileage is deductible, all those car repairs are deductible, but unless they drove more mile than money they earned, they still gotta pay the piper.

 

I've researched jobs heavily the past month or so. The most I'm seeing advertised is $0.60 CPM for W-2 company OTR dry van and reefer drivers.

If you averaged 2500 miles per week and never took a single day off and worked 52 weeks per year, that puts you at 78k gross per year. If you took 7 weeks off for hometime during the year (so going home about once a week for every 8 weeks worked) then that brings you down to about 67k per year. And the only company I've seen offering more than $0.60 CPM base pay is Crete/Shaffer with their new raise. And I would consider only taking 7 weeks total hometime throughout the year running pretty hard, that's about 3 days off per month. That's not much.

I think most drivers who are W-2 employee company drivers who do either regional or OTR Dry Van + Reefer pulling single 53' trailers are probably averaging about 65k gross per year. And yes, we should be paid more than that absolutely so hopefully the pay continues to increase where we earn what we are worth.

But I agree with Bryan, I would like to know what company is paying W-2 company drivers doing OTR dry van and/or reefer 2k gross per week or 104k per year. Not because I don't believe the poster who mentioned that pay a few posts back, but because I want to apply lol.

 

I’m paying teams 75 cents per mile so maybe up your goals. Just have to find a company that has insurance who is cool with less then 2 yrs experience.

 

Id bet 90% don’t pay much or any taxes at all. They take their chances of flying under the audit radar.

 

Mine is, but no health insurance or other benefits. .65 per mile for solo with a $1625 min per week. Must be haz and tanker endorsed. Dry and reefer. I did just fill the last truck tho which is nice. The new trucks are already 90 days late so who knows when they’ll finally arrive.

I’d look for companies out there that may be smaller but are profitable and offering big money.

It's a 1099, job, Uber and Lyft report to the IRS, they pay very little, for the 5 yrs that I did it, it was a 100% write-off, but there comes a limit too, I would typically drive about 28K miles per year, to make $21k, with vehicle repairs, fuel, insurance, etc., it was a 100% write-off, but, the IRS has started to look at the earnings of rideshare drivers, and question the deductions and the amounts. I'm on a rideshare drivers forum, and there have been several drivers audited in the last two years, and the IRS has questioned line by line their rideshare write-offs

 

That's how they deal with their turn-over, in some markets, the churn rate for rideshare drivers would make a mega blush, they claim "make $35 an hour", sure, then take out expenses, taxes, etc., it's closer to $15 an hour

 

Don't expect it too last. Sooner or later the bubble is going to burst. It always does. More likely sooner. And people will be begging to work. As they start losing their jobs. And they always flock to trucking.

Happened in 2008. We're about to see a repeat. And there's much more to make it happen this time around.
