I had a 359 mixer with one of those engines. Tough as nails. Buku torque. I don't think they have a ton of hp though. Like mid to high 300's.

Thanks, Dave In AZ... yeah, any feedback on this subject is appreciated. I live in Washington State. I haul 70,000 gross. I wonder how this engine with the 10 speed would fair on Interstate 90, east of Seattle in the cascade mountains. (Don't know rear end ratio yet.)

Probably crawl up the hills. Mixer was always heavy. I mean it's called an industrial engine. Never shut the truck off from starting time to finish. That thing would power the final drive on the drum. That's 40K pounds of concrete being batched and mixed.

But rarely did I go above 60mph. And it was 99% local. Even nuke plant was flat travel.

yeah, the thought of crawling up the mountains is definitely making me think this through carefully.

I think the ISM is 11 liter. A little short on displacement for making big power.

I don't know your situation, but if you're going to run 90 through Washington a lot, I'd try to get something with at least 450HP. My ISX would do okay with 3.58's. DD15 is about the same.

And if I had a real choice, and was spending a lot of time up there, I'd want 500HP.

Thanks, I don't know EXACTLY what I'm going to be doing. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have at least 450 HP. I don't know the HP on this particular ISM though. It could be 450 HP but I don't know if this engine is big enough to make 450 HP going up the mountains without overheating? There's some gaps in my knowledge about horsepower in general and what this engine can do.

Pretty sure they're like 330 to 360. You never know though. All kinds of wtf low rpm torque though.

Your ABSOLUTELY right, you can't really get more than 400hp out if them 11 liters. That is what I was told for years,I been trucking for 17 years and it's bankrupt me 2 times from making the wrong decisions on trucks,as the engine and the trans, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE,you do get a oil Analysis before you buy! This will be a lifesaver! I bought a truck not knowing it was spewing Antifreeze in the oil. And if the people are decent and not trying to sell a piece of S#IT, they won't mind,HUGE piece of mind, take it from someone who went bankrupt and almost lost everything, and if they are non English speaking definitely do everything you can to cover your Arse! I live in Michigan and we have Dearbornistan lots of trucks down there, they try to sell that have the worst maintenance. Not all...just most I have seen. Hope and Pray the best for you!

If you can, stay away from that ISM,if your driving the cascades, it will pull, but you will be beating the #### outta it to climb the big ones, that engine is good for more flat lands.
