Hey guys and gals. I have a 2000 FLD 120 and I'd like to swap out my Cat C12 for a Detroit 60 Series. The C12 is 355/410 with a Merritor 10spd manual. Is there going to be any compatibility issues that I may face by swapping out the engines, and what might they be, if any? Thanks in advance!

Torque rating and wiring harness. What's the 60 series rated at?

TBH I'm not entirely sure. I've heard some people say I'll have to go to a different torque rated 10 speed. Personally, I'd like to stay with the C12 that's in it but Cat is so proud of their rebuild kits, Jeez! The prices!

Rebuilding the C12 will be cheaper than purchasing, installing, and fabricating the harness. The 60 Series is far and away a better engine, but you're looking at a lot of money to upgrade. Yes, if torque rating is too far different, you'll need to upgrade the clutch and transmission.

Thanks for the info! A friend of mine actually told me about a program Cat has where they will do a complete overhaul with a comprehensive warranty. I think somewhere around $20K is what he said.

Not bad. I just ordered a new, non reman DDEC III 60 Series from Detroit. 6 weeks out @ 38K. I can get E, and C15 platinum kits very reasonable. Yes, CAT parts are very expensive, but the platinum kits are not unreasonable, and the C12 is a very efficient and easy to work on engine.

Yeah, it's a pretty simple engine to work on. But I am hoping they can upgrade/modernize the heat function. Currently, to turn the heat on or off, you have to raise the hood, go to passenger side of the engine and manually turn two valves. The problem is, you can't stop the heat. I turned it on because I was in a colder area and had to roll down the windows because I was pouring sweat! Roasting!

What? I thought they only sell reman now. Is it a complete drop in?

Yes. 6 weeks to build. Reman was 28k, but my 91 DDEC II core was no good to them. I inquired about new, and they said they could build me one.

    DUNE-T Thanks this.

Your stock trans is fine for the swap. Prob rated at 1450-1550. Unless your gonna upgrade to a 13 leave it be
