If it pays overtime after 40 or 8 you should get lots of free time.

There are local gigs, but the question is, will you have to commute? When I lived in Murfreesboro, TN I had to drive to Goodlettsville for work. It was 7up/Snapped. It was 48 miles there and 48 back. Getting there by 5 am was easy. Battling Nashville traffic coming was difficult to say the least. Sometimes it would take 2 or more hours to get home after a 12 hour day. It was Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday work. I would spend all weekend sleeping. It was a physically demanding job, and I lost weight quick lol. I was working 60 hrs weekly, and still could always enjoy a normal life because by the weekend I'd be too tired to. You may be a different animal than me, but I think it's difficult to live a "normal life" when you are a CDL holder. It's not impossible, and where you live has a lot to do with that. For many of us however, working long days and/or nights is going to make you not feel like doing anything on free time.

Some people don't require as much sleep as others, even though scientists disagree.
4-6 hrs. sleep is plenty for me, which makes trucking an ideal job with good pay.
Some people need 10-12 hours sleep, plus lots of breaks throughout the day and night.
I'd get a severe migraine if I spent that much time goofing off.

LTL is a great option, although you generally gotta pay your dues at the bottom of the seniority totem pole in most cases. But once you put your time in it's the cat's meow. I'm at over $30/hr, overtime, great bennies, no weekends, and sleep in my own bed every night. Usually put in around 50 hours a week, and I'm paid for each and every one of those hours on the clock. No freebies which unfortunately tends to happen in OTR.

Currently doing a combo Yard Jockey with some local shuttle. Pay for this seems to vary a lot. I'm on the low end, but I've $20+ an hour in other job markets. ( I gotta save up and move lol )

The work varies a lot to. Sometimes it's super busy and sometimes it's dead, but I'm still getting paid even if idle.

I suppose it's worth a mention that many of these kinds of jobs are 3 on 3 off then 4 on 4 off rotating, so after working some 12hr shifts you get that freetime of 3 or 4 consecutive days off.

Local dry bulk tanker work if you live in an area that's growing is some of the easiest work you'll find. Yeah it can be messy, and yeah there's some long days, but with the right company, it's not bad at all.

I live 14 miles from work, and lately I've been working about 11-12 hours a day. So i have plenty of free time. Archery season is upon us now, and getting out of the truck and going to the woods sure is nice.

You can get that doing P&D work but it's really physically demanding. I do it now for Yellow and I work around 10 hours a day
