What is important to you in a driving job?

Mine was being left alone and not sweating.

If I'm talking on the phone with you more than twice a month a third is going to be searching for a road test somewhere else.

Send me the loads with all the info needed and don't talk to me unless it's a meet and greet for customs paperwork and we are good.

I would gladly choose otr over a 100k ups job anyway. Local made me want to gag.

 

For me its all about the money first.
The more BS i have to out up with. Or places and things i dont want to do. The more it will take.
But the right amount of Benjamins can talk me into it.

When you say + per diem at $66 per day, do you actually KNOW what that means?
Because how you say it, it seems like you think that it is above and beyond the actual pay.
It is not.
Per diem is not added pay. It is a portion of the pay deducted before the tax is calculated, then a certain amount is added back in as non-taxed income.
That portion is not counted as taxable income, so it appears to the bean counters that you are getting a lower wage.
The company makes a profit on it on both the front end and the back end, because for them it is only a line item on a spreadsheet and they give back less than they take.

Never use per diem 'pay' as an incentive.

 

Per-diem is an incentive for me. It makes a noticeable difference to my take home pay.

Sure it reduces SS, but who knows if that will be around 15-20 years from now. I would rather get extra take home and save or choose where to invest it for retirement.

 

Latest tax plan did away with company drivers claiming per-diem. Only way to get it is to be self employed or have an employer scheme such as per mile.

When I could claim per-diem it was more than through the company in plan.

I guess you could give drivers the option of not being part of your per-diem plan. You would need to talk with pros to see how that would work.

 

I think you should speak to a CPA about it.

 

Security for the future is most important for me.
Strong leadership from the big chairs.
Affordable benefits.
A good pension or profit sharing.
A strong 401K match and a company stock w a history of growth.
And respect for the people that create the revenue that allows growth.
Every thing else is adaptable.

Every leader is strong in the eyes of those that follow that leader, and to the leader themself.

Affordable is relative.

Means nothing if the company goes south.

Same thing. The stocks could tank. History means exactly nothing.

Define the people that create the revenue that allows growth.
Are you to respect them more for giving you the job, or they for you because you do the grunt work?
