    a little back story.

I have been driving about 3 years now, mostly tankers but wanted less labor due to bad knees and hips from a combination of HS Sports, Army, Deep Sea Fishing and sadly I was hit by a drunk driver. he was traveling over 75 mph in a 35 mph zone and hit me head on, I am made up of lots of titanium medical implants. yes they used titanium because of a past reaction to medical grade stainless steel. I have a fairly good business acumen, when I was 13, I took over my brothers paper route, back then they were sold. he sold it to me because he was too busy for it. he wanted 1/2 my wages for 3 months to pay for it. I thought that was too steep. the route made about 400 a month and he was selling it for $250 cash but financing me he was going to try to get $600. I used my families lawn mower and cut about 20 yards and made the money to cover the gas I used, buy a wagon and the paper route, as I was delivering the papers the people I cut the grass for asked me if I was going to continue cutting the grass they would pay me to cut it regularly. at 13 I had lots of things I wanted, being raised by a single mom, I didn't have all I wanted, I did have all I needed, so I had a difficult time refusing the opportunity to earn money. by fall I was delivering paper at 5am before school and then after school I would cut 4-5 yards a day, on weekends I would cut 6-8 and still have time to fish. living in a trailer park yards were small and close together. As winter set in i decided I was going to shovel snow (what a mistake) by the time I was 15, my best friend was 16, he had a truck and wanted to make money, so I paid for his gas, I bought a trailer, and 2 mowers, trimmers and blowers. by 17 I got my license, and bought a brand new truck, paid in cash, not the best truck but I bought a ford ranger 1997, I decided I was going to go in the Army, I had 4 employees, 64 weekly accounts and still delivered the paper. we had 2 trucks running and my friend offered to buy the business I started, he would pay me $20,000 and pay me 15% of the business for life. we inked the deal, I loaned him the $20k interest free as he was my best friend. today he is making good money, still paid me my cut until my car accident. he was there for me in a time of need with a bleak financial outlook and bought me out for a large sum. all in all not a bad business built from hard work, at 17 I made two times as much as my mother who was an ER nurse.

I first looked at getting into a lease when I started driving. I came here to this forum to read about it and was convinced it was a fools bet. I started driving for a company and kept running the numbers, I came to the conclusion, the ney sayers were right and wrong. leases are not a good thing if you are not a self starter and do not have the understanding you are your business. thanks to @markealy I seen he was doing it. all my research says the biggest determining factor to a successful lease purchase are

1.) dont drive on a pay per mile contract... you lose!!! Every time!
2.) dont drive for the company that you lease from, you are the customer in a lease, they should not control your earnings
3.) no forced dispatch. that limits your earning potential to what your dispatcher allows.
4.) you have to be a self starter!
5.) pretrip. pretrip and for the love of god, whomever you pray to. ####ing pretrip!

I will keep yall up to date as my adventure continues. I am set to pick up my truck, on October 18, in Tipp City, Ohio!

My lease is through TEL, I drive for USA Truck, I am on the load board, TEL does not control how much money I can make, and I do not pay USA. what I mean by don't let the lessor control your income is if a company has inn house lease purchase, for the trucks they own, and they dispatch you. I wont publicly point fingers.

usa has a contract with Tel. your terms are only good with tel and usa. if you leave usa. you can only take the truck to a approved Tel carrier. i have been there done that.
