How is your current operation set up? Do you haul locally and return home every night or are you out for longer periods of time?

Which motor is in each truck?

DD13's or DD15's?

Which transmission is in each truck?

In my "professional" opinion I like the Western Star for the car hauler operation and the sleeper for the extended time on the road.

 

Sorry I did not realize the Western Star had a Mercedes-Benz diesel in it even though I do like the transmission.

If this was my only choice between these two trucks I would take the cascadia with the DD13.

 

Have you always paid for hotels yourself? Why spend about 25k a year in hotels when you can get a truck with a bed?

 

I agree with what @ready2truck said about purchasing a truck with a sleeper. I do think you should explore the market for some better options because I, from a mechanics viewpoint, do not like the MB diesel in the Western Star. This motor can actually be a good, hard working motor and make good power and get good fuel economy but there have also been quite a few problems with this motor too. I'd you are not mechanically inclined or you do not have a good relationship with a good diesel shop I would stay away from this Western Star.

 

When I am shopping for a truck I look in all of the non-normal places. Im looking for people going out of business, companies downsizing and trucks with for sale by owner signs. I travel across the country and not always on the interstate. I get to go through the small towns and state highways and see trucks for sale in front of people's houses or on a corner lot.

There are still a lot of good, affordable trucks for sale but you have to do some searching to find them.
