Looking at a 2000 100k aluminum flat this weekend. I've never owned a Reitnouer. Are there any issues I should be looking for? Since they bolt together are they difficult to get serviced? I see they do their beams differently than any other trailer I've owned that has a web and flange style beam so I guess cracks won't be in the usual places.

I don't know what year they changed, but it was a lot later than 2000, the steel suspension and kingpin plate are bolted to the frame without any isolation. I recently spent $3,000 to fix the kingpin plate fixed.

So I'll be looking for rust jacking where the frame sits in the straddle mounts of the suspension. I guess that's the same issue with the upper coupler?

Likewise with the suspension. The aluminum was so oxidized, that it was the same as rust jacking. They drop the suspension, clean up the corrosion, straighten the steel on the suspension then put something like spray on bedliner before putting it back together.

I had it done when it was about 12 years old. I can't imagine that yours hasn't been done yet, but that is a huge thing to look for. Likewise the wiring. Because it's open, it is subject to a lot of corrosion breaks. Enough repairs it's just worth replacing.

Thanks. It's got a connie on it and the price is low. I'm certain it's going to need a ton of work. Just want to make sure I don't miss anything unique to Reitnouer or aluminum trailers in particular. I can rewire it myself if need be but dropping the suspension and/or doing an upper coupler is beyond my pay grade. That would all have to be farmed out to a shop.

This is not specific to any brand of trailer , I know zilch about the brand you’re looking at .

. But Any place that aluminum and steel touch each other will have corrosion in between that you can’t see . So look at those areas carefully .

Duly noted, thanks. Dissimilar metals don't play nicely together but similar metals can rust jack or build up enough corrosion to push the separate pieces apart too.

I was speaking specifically about reitnouer, but it's the same by all aluminum trailers. Fortunately, some genius redesigned them with a rubber pad between the suspension and the frame. Unfortunately after our trailers!

The biggest problem with them is where the suspension hangers meet the frame. 467677BF-B6BF-4519-8B8C-CEB663459237.jpeg E132C774-CAAB-4B85-AF1B-A60F1611B2FC.jpeg Check the 5th wheel plate carefully. This is what they look like in the inside.
My new trailer has a aluminum 5th wheel plate now.

They still suck. I’m ok with everything about them except them #### suspension hangers. They are the only ones doing it that way despite themselves.

Bean Jr. and cke Thank this.
