That’s what I was thinking.

If you’ve been working full time as a truck driver for five years and haven’t been able to save $25k you have other personal spending and budget issues.
If you can’t save $420 a month as a driver , you got bigger personal spending issues, and you won’t ever survive as an owner operator .

I guess that’s why a lot of folks start off in hotshots ? Since they are easier to finance ?

 

I have nothing to add but OP abandoned this thread. Why are we still bumping the carcass?

 

Thank you so much for the positive message. I'm fairly new to this forum but there seems to be an incredible amount of negativity towards anyone interested in becoming an owner/operator.

 

I tried owner operator starting June 2021. Was bored with it. So I got my own numbers and went independent. Here I am now.- With full support of my bride at home running books. My advice buy only new equipment and only the best money can buy. have at least 50,000 in the checking account. I started with about 150K. If you don’t have the money, I recommend getting with an elite trucking company and working your butt off and or sell off assets. I sold my property and home and now live in an apartment. Some may think that is crazy. Investing in work, it’s not a bad idea. Having that nice car at home will do nothing for making more money for you down the road. Do not spend your money on pointless things. The time to spend money on yourself is when everything is already going great, not when you still have goals ahead of you to accomplish. Look at a lot of America’s greats that started from humble beginnings. What many have in common is that they did not cash in on the fruits of their labor until the very end of life. A lot of young people today want to have happiness immediately. Seldom do they truly find happiness. I find happiness in the Lord providing me the ability to work. my Disneyland or my beach vacation is working out here delivering food to people.

 

I want to thank you again for the positive message. I'm just getting started in this business so I know I have a lot to learn. I've had business experience for the past twenty years so of course I've already started doing the numbers on owning versus working for someone. I know I'm not ready. I'll be ready when I have experience, and a nice cushion in the bank. I truly feel like the Lord is calling me to this. I'll trust him to put me where I need to be when I need to be there. How long did it take you to pay off your truck and what kind of freight were you hauling?

 

My equipment is not paid off. I have a loan for truck and Reefer trailer sir. I feel more comfortable with the loans and having a nice chunk in my accounts. Sleep with no financial worries.
