Hello owner operators! I just have a question. I drive from Houston to Fontana California but the diesel prices are 900 one way now the average load pays 2000 of course coming back is a different story because we make around 5000.
we pay our drivers 28% I have two drivers now they make 2000 a week in five days so weekends off.
every day the price of diesel is going up but the brokers are paying less. It’s getting close to the point that the driver will make more than us what gives? What you guys think about our current situation ? God bless thanks

Even specialized is feeling the pinch. Luckily i know the point where i start losing money assumeing rates stay the same is $4.93 a gallon. That said i know a lot of places renegotiate rates between december and january so you may see rates boost around that time for some places.

The problem you have is California. Everybody wants to go there so the rates to California from anywhere are insanely low. I don't go out there because I refuse to haul for nothing just get there.

Fontana to houston. Any driver that puts up with that lane deserves all the money in the world. That sounds miserable

Have you guys ever tried to cut out the brokers and go direct? Assuming you are picking up ans delivering the same loads, since this sounds like a dedicated route?

What trailer do you pull? In open deck, it can be as simple as BS'ing with the guy unloading you, and one thing leads to another.
