To many of these yo-yos these days think the shoulder is a place to park and take a 30 or read a message and if it's just some moron parked there with no or improperly placed triangles I know it's an idiot and won't cut off traffic to my left .
It's an epidemic anymore and in 35 years I've needed the shoulder maybe 5 times .

When I hauled cars I did something a little bit similar. If I had to unload on the shoulder or in a center turn lane I would leave a strap a couple two or three feet out in the lane at the rear of the trailer. They will swerve to miss that strap but could care less about me. Luckily I was never hit while loading/unloading. In car hauling you unload in some sketchy places its just part of the job and unavoidable sometimes.

As a city driver for R&L I had a cone I carried that I’d throw out if I had to stop in an awkward place. I see some of the beverage/food service guys do that as well, like you said they’d kill themselves to avoid that cone but buzz right past me

I don't think they can block the lane or put wood in lane. I have seen TA repair truck put orange cone in lane a little.

Seems like of they are that worried about getting hit they need to call the cops or something. They could cause and accident putting stuff in traffic Lanes.

Well for the service idiot throwing crap at cars, they can be charged for damaging those cars, I know this first hand.

moving over is sometimes not an option. Sometimes drivers keep tight distances and not let others in. There are problems that can be caused by the service person especially in cases when the service vehicle isn’t insisting on proper indicators by the truck that is broken down.

I came up on one this morning, the ******* driver had no cones, no triangles, no flares out on a blind corner, you come around the corner at the speed limit, and you have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting it. The service vehicle is sitting there off the road and shoulder but has just one flashing light on. I was pissed enough to call the cops who showed up and got the driver to get the triangles out and the cop put the flares out.

I carry about 8 traffic triangles and some flares etc. If I have to unload in a lane, I'll close that lane off with them. Also gives the forklift guys room to work.

Never had an issue (tho this isn't a highway just a street)

Improperly placed triangles is so common even tho I believe it is taught in school nowadays? Some set them up as if to direct traffic towards them ffs

Doesn't seem wise to place an object in the lane that might be hit by a vehicle and thrown right back to the person that placed it.

It would be poetic justice, however, if it did happen.

I will do my best to move over a lane when possible, and I will slow way down if I'm not able to.
Sorry about the person tailgating me at the time if it happens.

But I have seen accidents caused by trucks that force their way into the next lane.
One time a truck cut someone off to move over, causing that car to spin out into the median and causing another car to swerve into my lane right in front of me. I barely missed taking that car out.

Too many stupid drivers out there that leave zero room to do anything safely.
